My promise to DU.
Edited on Sat Mar-11-06 01:56 PM by HypnoToad
From here until the end of Time itself, I will be less inclined to post anything unless it lacks negative connotation. I am not a negative person and I will end the misconception once and for all.

(even my real friends disagree with the notion and merely say I am a paranoid person... but I am working on that too.)

Thank you for reading. And the others can take me off their 'ignore' lists now. :)

1. Your posts always seem fine to me. Don't change because of a
few grumps...

BTW, I don't ignore anyone...

20. Or I had read their messages the wrong way...?
It just came across, to me, too strongly...

That and a couple of inferences I incorrectly perceived... I ultimately felt abandoned by them. But they know whey are. This is an apology to them as well. And if I can still PM them, that's awesome. If not, that's understandable too - did I ever misinterpret them... (Not to wander, but I still have the PM from a person from over 2 years ago, you see, which also goes back into this negativity thing... and hopefully, one day, he'll forgive me. :) )

Besides, there probably isn't one single person here who is perpetually happy. Hell, I bet even CaliforniaPeggy has posted in the negative a time or two- but I might be wrong about that ;)

21. You are too kind, my dear!
 Thank you for asking. My new crush... after the 3rd date, he vanished. I didn't think we were much of a 'click' anyway, but we tried - and I left him a voicemail to be sure. But we were too different in our personalities, I still do wish him the best.

And I probably do have hypochondria; I often exhibit all the symptoms... :D Or I take minor symptoms and immediately think the worst. And like the doc said, the issues won't go away over short period of time either (the tingling and stuff).

Choice #4 had me

(I didn't respond to the poll. I'd never do #4. #1s-3 are impossible. You can imagine the recursive nightmare the DU server would have if people were allowed to put themselves on ignore; our dear Kitchenwitch made a thread about the subject just a few days back. :D )

9. I also agree with Strong Atheist.
Just be yourself, however you're feeling. People who don't like "negativity" are afraid you'll bring them down, so it may be that they aren't entirely sure of their own positivity. :D

Besides, people perceive others differently. I made a joke about death in voice class and one of my classmates said, "Gee, that's uncharacteristically dark of you." Yet my old therapist constantly berated me: "You're too negative!" I think he just didn't want to deal with some of the issues I was raising. He wanted to stay positive and happy and if revelations about serious problems in the government, economy and environment upset him, maybe it was his problem for wanting to bury his head in the sand.

We're all multifaceted. Perhaps you tend to bring up "negative" issues here because it's one of the few places you can discuss them. It's kind of hard to go to a party or some other "positive" outing and say something like, "So, do you think we're totally screwed because of ?" Of course, then we should ask what we can do about it, but I've had trouble with motivation lately.

DU may be your release valve. For me, it used to be my therapists, but the last two got sick of my "negativity." Whatever. I thought we went to therapists so we could express those "negative" emotions safely. Maybe I'm the one with the problem. Perhaps I should just go in and yuk it up like I do in most other situations? :D Hello? If I didn't have negative feelings, I wouldn't need a therapist. :)

13. I intend to. I'm not sure how to broach the subject.
Edited on Sat Mar-11-06 03:12 PM by Ladyhawk
My current therapist lost me when she asked why I never talked about the happy things in my life. Well, duh! I am not going to a therapist because I want to discuss what's right in my life!

Plus, she totally doesn't get the whole dynamic of being an ex-fundy and how difficult it is to be surrounded by fundies and family that don't get it (not to mention therapists who don't get it). She keeps telling me there aren't that many fundies up here. Ahem! I've lived here my whole life. I think I know the population a bit better than she does. For chrissakes, the inpatient psychiatrist is a fucking fundy! Also, she doesn't have the ex-fundy baggage I have. She has minimalized and invalidated my entire experience and I just don't care to share any more.

Screw it.

Back in GD, there were many times when I offered solutions - at least on an individual level, if nothing more.

But often, I hadn't added any possible fix to the problems I was frothing over. I'll admit I'd been so down-in-the-dumps on issues I forget about all them too. And usually because I wasn't trying to bring about "glib awareness" about my pet disaster of the day...

Your previous therapists are unwilling or unable to find working solutions, or even listen in times of need - which I thought was their job too. I'd gone to one for over 3 years, solely because he was gay - and 40 miles away. That's when I discovered that mutual orientation doesn't mean he knows everything - he normally worked with couples... and was single... and our backgrounds were similar in some respects... Little did I know that a therapist who'd been working 2 miles from where I live, had a fuller set of credentials and helped accurately define what's different about me just over one year ago...

As for therapists, anyone worth half their diploma would NEVER EVER come down on you. To tell you you're too negative is wrong and it's that point when you cut them off to find another, or even complain about them to their management - stop them from being the same to others who may not have the chutzpah to respond.  And I'd been barked it royally by one; who for other reasons should have retired ages ago... and by now he probably has.
