who here knows a lot about solar cells?
I have some questions...

1. I used to...
LOL!

What are your questions and I bet someone here in the Lounge
can either answer them or direct you to someone who can.

2. I know a little about space flight-types, such as are being used in...
terrestrial concentrated systems. I also have some links.

Fire away.

3. I need the cubic weight of "raw" or unpackaged solar cells...
not in panels/modules yet. Need to calculate shipping costs of cells that will be assembled into panels at their destination.

Having a hard time finding it.

Also, any info on how amorphic silicon PV cells are made would be very helpful.

Thank you!

4. So you have to move bulk amouts of raw cells?
Does the manufacturer have a spec sheet?

I work with GaAs cells, and know nothing about silicon. But I bet Google will turn up something. I can ask an engineer for a source, if you don't get an answer by Monday.

5. yup - this is all for a feasibility study so there is no
spec sheet -- if raw cells (amorphic silicon PV) were produced in location A, what would be the weight of a single cell so that I can do a bulk calculation.

Google's got tons of info on the weight of modules, but I want the weight of the cells (cells to be manufactured in one location, turned into modules in another).

6. That's not much to go on...
The cells aren't always individual.

This has more to do with logistics than solar cells.

7. yeah, I know... I just need
some weight measurement of the raw materials (not totally raw, formed into wafers or cells) so that I can do an estimate. And I keep coming across the weight of the module/panel, not an average of the cell itself. It doesn't have to be a definitive model, just a number to use to estimate shipping costs.

8. Check this....
It's a PDF from Sanyo.

www.sanyo.com/semiconductors/catalogs/SolarCells_EP120.pdf

Different sizes, dimensions and weights on page 5.

Also search for amorphous silicon.

9. thank you!!
looks like there is a lot of helpful info in the file. I appreciate it very much.
