Vietnam Deserter Arrested On Way To Vacation

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. -- Almost four decades after fleeing his Marine Corps' unit into Canada, a 56-year-old man is being held at Camp Pendleton for desertion.

Officials said Allen Abney was arrested Thursday when he and his wife tried to cross into the United States from their home in British Columbia on their way to Reno.

Abney's daughter said he had crossed into the United States hundreds of previous times without incident. She says he's being forced to pay "for a decision he made when he was 18 years old."

3. Sounds like crap to me

Jimmy Carter granted a general amnesty for all draft resisters who went to Canada back in the late 70s. Some cops in Cali need to do some reading.
