iPod nano...How embarrassing
I consider myself a reasonably intelligent guy. I have a Bachelor's Degree, am two classes short of my master's, and I've been a helicopter pilot in the military for over 15 years.

I have commanded 30 and 50 million dollar aircraft at night, under night vision goggles, in bad weather. I have led 15 ship air assaults, and I have lead men in battle. And not to toot my own horn, but I was pretty fuckin' shit hot.

And in front of me sits an iPod nano, measuring maybe 3" by 1", which I bought so I could listen to some music at the gym, and I am dumbfounded. I have no fuckin' clue how to load music on to it, or listen to said music once it is loaded. In short, I have no idea how to work this goddamn thing.

And so I must sit and wait for my daughter to come home from Junior High School so I can listen to some Springsteen when I go to the gym.

Sigh....

1. I'm right there with you.
I work in tech management and there are so many gadgets and toys out right now that just piss me off. How the hell can I have trouble with something that the average 10 year old can figure out?

5. No instructions came with it
You have to get them online. To do that, I need the password to out iPod account...which I don't have.

It's a vicious circle.

7. If it's your first time, you should be able to set the password.
You should also be able to reset the password, unless it's set up to go to your daughter's email, which won't help.

I really found it pretty easy-- once you have it hooked up and iTunes going you just drag and drop songs from iTunes to iPod.

8. This is a great beginners' guide
http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iPod_nano_Features_Guide.pdf

Just bought mine last week. Once you learn it you'll love it.

(And I spent 6+ yrs working on F-18 Hornets, loading weapons and repairing weapons systems with 8 people working under me in the Persian Gulf and sometimes I can't figure out the "simple" shit like iPods, either, so don't feel bad.)

Enjoy The Boss!

9. I found it to be very difficult too.
I am an idiot, however, so this did not surprise me in the least. Oh, and my instructions were in Japanese, and I speak English. That may have had something to do with it. :D

11. So much for a company that helped make computing easier for people.

:(

We're all human. We have our individual strengths and weaknesses. There comes a point when the "lowest common denominator" does far more harm than good. And that line was crossed by 1994.

12. I found Apple's software difficult to use and documentation lacking.
FAR more than most MS apps. :hide:

But, I've written tech and training manuals for MS shops so maybe I'm spoiled.

13. I use 'em all.
and, especially by 1999, Apple was losing a lot of claims; the PC could do it too.

And, thanks to their offshoring gamble - and it is a gamble - they've lost what's left of their credibility.

Why get a $2500 intel mac laptop when a $1700 intel PC-compatible laptop with the same specs is out there? Loyalty?! I hope not. Apple is hardly loyal to America anymore; not with this offshoring... x( Never mind leeching off of free software and I'm presuming they have kept their promise of putting back into open source what they took out...

14. Because WinXP goes down more often than a $2 whore
OSX is much harder to crash.

If it stars misbehaving, just pull up the command line and kill the process. The beauty of Unix.
