Thug beat bandmate to death for poor playing

A PIPER killed a bandmate because he thought he had played badly in a competition, a court heard yesterday.

Keith Drysdale, 38, launched a frenzied attack on James Mearing at a practice session.

He repeatedly punched Mr Mearing in the face, kicked him and threw a chair at him.

The 51-year-old victim, who was a well-known busker in Edinburgh, suffered a brain haemorrhage and died in hospital.

Drysdale was originally charged with murder. But at the High Court in Edinburgh yesterday, he admitted the reduced charge of culpable homicide.
