How bad is it that I deleted my daughter's Ipod playlist?
It was an accident. What a stupid piece of equipment that I can't copy the files on her Ipod back to my hard drive.

I bought my son a Nano for his birthday, she had a Mini. I installed the software that came with the Nano and then my PC wouldn't recognize the Mini or the Nano.

So I decided to uninstall the newer software and reinstall the old sofware. I chose a System Restore point. The System Restore point didn't work. Songs all gone. 700 of them.

4. Damn, I was hoping I was reading instructions wrong and
there was a way to salvage the songs (and myself).

I think I'm going to run away today.

7. actually, i think there is some software out there you can use
the other thing you can do is set it so you don't automatically update the ipod when you connect to iTunes. it's kind of a pain because you have to manually add any new music, but at least it doesn't erase the music that's on the ipod that isn't on your computer. (if that makes ANY sense)

help file. Thanks.

2. Well I assume the inability to go ipod to PC is to prevent people from
sharing music that way, but it's lame, especially if you've purchased all the music, there should be some "unique license ID" or password you can use to do it.

6. What I think is worse is that I need to keep all these files sitting
on my hdd in perpetuity. What a stupid design.

10. I don't know much about Ipods but it seems I'm supposed
to have a USB 2.0 port for the Nano and I only have USB 1.1. I don't know if when I added the software for the Nano, it then required me to have a USB 2.0.

I'm just really not sure.

11. System Restore doesn't do anything with personal files
that I can think of. Have you searched your drive for *.mp3 or *.aac ?

13. I thought System Restore would revert to the previous version
of the Ipod software that I installed. Only because I have a Gateway with Go Back that will take your entire PC back to a previous state, I thought System Restore would do the same.

No, I haven't searched for those files yet but I will. I was able to pull some out of my trashcan, but I was hoping to get the entire original list because of the sync thing.

18. There's tons of programs to transfer the files back from the Mini.
I have no idea what they are, but I know there's tons of them. Go to www.ipodlounge.com. There should be plenty of information there.

and I was able to reinstall them from my ipod. Just take your time and copy from your daughters ipod to the library.

songs yet. It was a bad one that continued through this morning.

Maybe my subconcious made me do it.:-(

24. Well, all the other dads are going to thank you,
since you've now completely lapped the field in the race for the "uncoolest dad of the year award". :)

(Being a guy myself, I assume you are a dad - it's more of a man thing to fiddle with electronic stuff until catastrophe occurs.)

inclined one in the family (even better than my kids - usually).

Believe me, I already know how uncool I am - I try to embrace it.

31. Yay, it was only 200 songs and I got them all back and I got
both the Nano and Mini to work! Everyone loves me again!

I reinstalled the new software and the playlist came back.

It ended up that the reason the Nano wouldn't work was because of a bad cable. I learned my lesson about buying an open box item (though maybe the aggravation was worth the 75.00 savings).
