A St. Patrick's Day message: "Get Drunk!"

"Get Drunk!", by Charles Baudelaire

One should always be drunk.
That's all that matters;
that's our one imperative need.
So as not to feel Time's horrible burden
One which breaks your shoulders and bows you down,
You must get drunk without cease.

But with what?
With wine, poetry, or virtue
as you choose.
But get drunk.

And if, at some time, on steps of a palace,
in the green grass of a ditch,
in the bleak solitude of your room,
you are waking and the drunkenness has already abated,
ask the wind, the wave, the stars, the clock,
all that which flees,
all that which groans,
all that which rolls,
all that which sings,
all that which speaks,
ask them, what time it is;
and the wind, the wave, the stars, the birds, and the clock,
they will all reply:

"It is time to get drunk!

So that you may not be the martyred slaves of Time,
get drunk, get drunk,
and never pause for rest!
With wine, poetry, or virtue,
as you choose!"

1. It sunk like a stone in a pint of stout, so...
kick! For myself.

:hi:

A DRUNKEN MAN'S PRAISE OF SOBRIETY

COME swish around, my pretty punk,
And keep me dancing still
That I may stay a sober man
Although I drink my fill.
Sobriety is a jewel
That I do much adore;
And therefore keep me dancing
Though drunkards lie and snore.
O mind your feet, O mind your feet,
Keep dancing like a wave,
And under every dancer
A dead man in his grave.
No ups and downs, my pretty,
A mermaid, not a punk;
A drunkard is a dead man,
And all dead men are drunk.

nice Baudelaire, BTW

4. Just opened my first beer :D
Indeed. Do it the Irish way :) Get drunk.

P.S. Charles Baudelaire is French, but I don't have any wine.

5. Yes, he's French...
But the poem is still poignant for this day. If one chooses to get drunk, it's up to them as to what intoxicates their soul. Wine (or any alcohol) will do the job, but does it fill you like women or poetry or song or art? :)

Now, enough of the heavy stuff. Enjoy your beer!!!! :toast:
