Do your cats intentionally lose their collars?

They wear Safety Collars now with their tags, even though they're indoor cats. One has Houdini tendencies. The Safety Collars are harder to scratch off, but come off if they get caught on something. They haven't figured out the last part, yet.

They also wear bells because they both have a tendency to want to stand right behind me and neither of us can handle me stepping on them.

They both wear safety collars, and the little orange striped one likes to take his off (I've yet to figure out how he does it) and run around the house "naked".

I usually find his collar in the water dish.

But I once had a cat that went into a literal panic attack when mom stuck a collar on her. And then there was Ralph who'd wear a harness and we'd take him outside on a leash. The two kitties we have now don't wear collars, as they're indoor kitties. But they are microchipped, so they can still be IDed if they happen to get out.

Oreo found a way to not only take off her collar, but also to unbuckle the damned thing. I thought "any cat that clever deserves her freedom." (they're indoor cats, so there's really no point to making them wear something they hate.)

indoor cats really don't need one, but I can see it for outdoor cats

I've never tried, but my cat wouldn't tolerate it, I just know it - no more than I would if someone were to try to collar me

She is on duty now, patrolling the house, from window to window. She comes on duty at 9 every evening cuz the dog takes nights off and could sleep through an explosion.

Sunday Girl used to wear a harness when I worked for the dog groomer, but that was because I took her to work with me a lot of time. She was very popular with the people and the other animals. Wow, I once gave a pig a bath. I just remembered that. I also once washed a ferret and once a hamster. Not bad memories. Anyhow, what you said about your cat being on duty reminds me of Yogi. He is my only boy cat. He has separation anxiety when it comes to me. It's almost like a ritual every day. I go to school and he looks out the window and watches me leave, then runs through the house screaming. My aunt tells me about it every day. He can't stand when I leave.

At night, when I first go to bed, he gets in the window and checks the yard out really good for about 10 minutes, then he comes to bed with me for about 10 minutes and lays as close as he can. After that, he goes to the doorway of my bedroom and sits there like a statue most of the night. When I am on the computer, he sits in the doorway and gives my aunt a dirty look if she comes to say hello to me. He won't let the other two in here. I have to carry them in and let them know they can come in my room. Sometimes he will let his littermate, Domino, sleep on the bed. It's weird. It's like he is guarding me, for real.

My cat pretty much has the run off the house, and she certainly takes advantage of it.

At this point, I don't imagine a collar would go over very well with her.

collar, he goes crazy. He will jump, turn in circles and push into me with his nose until I hold the collar out for him to stick his head back through it.

lemme guess: his favorite channel is Animal Planet, right?

Boots actually removed his collar when he was a kitten. Every time I tried to put a collar on him, he'd find a way to get it off, so I gave up trying.

I've had to replace Flame and Spark's collars many many times in their first year of life.
They're indoor/outdoor cats and we like to have the NICE, fake-gold-plated engraved nametags on them, which have our phone # on them, so every time they've INTENTIONALLY lost them, I've had to buy replacements, too....ON TOP OF the cost of the the break-away collars, themselves.

I swear I've done this at least half a dozen times, between the two of them.

Very annoying. And of course, we have NEVER found them anywhere outside....

especially phone headset wires. I've had to replace at least three or four headsets, since we've had her.

She has this absolute fascination with chewing things....almost dog-like.

I hope I don't sometime find Spark literally sparked to DEATH b/c she's decided to gnaw on the computer printer cord...which I've actually seen her attempt. :eyes:

I've used chili oil to keep her off it lately....
