Woman to Wed 'Boys Don't Cry' Inmate
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A Chicago woman has been granted a marriage license to marry one of the killers portrayed in the movie "Boys Don't Cry."

Justine Mirth, 32, says she can't wait to marry Tom Nissen, who is serving life in prison for the 1993 slayings of three people in a farmhouse in southeast Nebraska.

"I'm dying to go see him. I want to hold him," she said. "He's the man I love. I want to spend the rest of my life with him."

The crime inspired the award-winning 1999 movie starring Hilary Swank, who played one of the victims, 21-year-old Teena Brandon, who was born a woman but lived as a man in southeast Nebraska under the name Brandon Teena.

1. I honestly do not get this
Scott Peterson also gets marriage proposals, Ted Bundy, etc. WTF is wrong with people. This isn't like wanting to marry Andrea Yates or someone in for selling pot... these people are sociopaths.

7. I think it's avoidance. You get to have the rights and privileges of
marriage (although probably not the sex), but none of the responsibilities or hard work. No arguments about the kids, finances, who is going to take out the garbage, etc. It's the chance to pretend to be married, but without the need to fully commit to someone. And this guy's a lifer, so she'll never have to worry about how he'll adjust to life outside.

9. If someone evil really loves you, aren't you extra special?
 I don't understand either, but I sense that it's based on low self-esteem, desperation, and just plain meanness. Sort of the same vein as the people that admire bullies in school. It's a safe way to play with danger, earn some vicarious fame, and also show how you are so wonderful that you can bring a cold-blooded killer to love. :puke:

really sick.

2. There are so many decent men around and she wants murdering scum?!
Lock her up in the same cell. That way, she and he can be together always.

What a nut. x(

Even offshoring is palatable compared to this!

4. He's sort of a captive audience
At least you'll KNOW where he is all the time...

Seriously, this is so sad - the 'rescuer' gone too far. These women don't know they deserve someone much, much better...:-(

5. You nailed it
They're "rescuers" and "fixers," and they say things like, "Oh, he's really not like that. He just made a mistake."

It's sad, man.

6. maybe they DON'T deserve someone better
she had to go out looking for this kind of partner

maybe she gets off on seeing the supposed person she loves in a cage, who knows the mental pathology behind this type of behavior

14. Maybe she doesn't deserve better than that... maybe he really IS the best
she can manage.

Women who fall for imprisoned men are very, very mentally unstable. The whole psychosis is based in a deeply rooted fear of commitment and intimacy.

I knew a gal who was in love with a fella in jail. When he got out, she dumped him. It was easier for her to "love" him when he wasn't there -- or at least to imagine she did. She was a truly messed up individual who sought very hard to make sure she was as unattractive as possible. She went to every extreme to plunge herself as deeply into unsuiteable situations as possible -- and she didn't complain about it. She liked it.

I sense there were some self image issues relating to molestation and abuse... but she wasn't worth delving into as a human.

Sometimes, not all people are salvageable for everyone.

It just happens.... it's very sad.

8. Maybe she's just as tapped as he is.
I mean, Manson had followers that bought into him.

Could also be tripping on the "power" that the killer has/had. Taking another's life could be seen, lewdly, as being the ultimate in power.
