54. I found it interesting that there was a Vulcan "paradise."
But then again, in "The Voyage Home," that whole concept of Vulcan Mysticism was explored. The exchange between Kirk and McCoy at the beginning, where Kirk says "you don't have to believe... but if there's even a possibility that Spock has an immortal soul..." was pretty powerful stuff.

Ain't it amazing that a culture totally devoted to logic would have theist/religious overtones? O8)

The problem I face is that I see theology in EVERYTHING.

59. The concept of 'immortal souls' sure is nothing strange to me.
And for the logical approach - who said that pure logic works without religious overtones? It might go for a short distance, but then you have to face a multitude of possibilities, which should be open to everything. Look at modern physics, quantum physics, the theories of everything: You might find something there that was an 'initial idea' of the whole, whatever you call it. I have no problem with that at all.

I see mysticism in almost everything ... And it's good.

60. That point you just made:
Is the essence of the first ST movie. Spock's search for meaning - pure logic wasn't enough - he needed feeling. And V-GER needed the human element to evolve.

Hmmm... I GOTTA work out that dissertation! (the theology of ST)

66. You'll come to a harsh end with pure logic
at one point. You can stand still and determine your being, your whereabouts and your surroundings within your logical concept, and be happy with it, I guess, but you might miss the real challenge. The challenge of seeing it all being connected, perhaps born from an initial idea of pure compassion and evolvment.

We're the starships already. Not even we need them.
