Time again for the 15min fire drill: You have 15mins to grab & get out!

Here's the scenario:

The alarm has gone off and you have 15 minutes to gather your belongs and get the hell out of there. You can grab as much stuff as you can but once 15 minutes are up you must vacate the premise and everything left behind will be destroyed.

What do you grab?

It has so many papers in it, even some important documents, bills, etc....I keep everything in there.

Some clothes, my cell phone, my Snoopy stuffed animal that I've had since I was five, a picture of my boyfriend and me that is hanging on my wall and if I have enough time, maybe some of my favorite porns from my collection! :evilgrin:

thing I would grab. Heck, I would need something to cheer me up if all my other possessions burnt! :)

Mrs. Rat, three emergency carriers for the furbabies (with furbabies loaded or stuffed into the carriers, depending on the immediacy of the situation), precious papers box (fire-resistant with backups of all computers), the Mac CPU and the Vaio laptop.

Everything else, though I might hate to lose it (especially some of my basses), would be replaceable.

By the way, we have timed this before (hurricane and tornado evac) and we can do this and be on the road in less than 10 minutes!

Mrs. Rat would grab her workbag with laptop.

The bag which holds all that is left of my great-grandfather's personal belongings. It consists of a large freezer bag holding his passport, work log from when he was younger, death certificate, pictures, ect...

I would grab my two birds, laptop, one guitar, and my insurance papers.

First, I would grab Evita because once I get the cat carrier out she'll be someplace almost impossible to find her and I would waste an extra 15 minutes just dragging her out from underneath the bed.

In this order:

Grab Evita
Grab the cat carrier and toss Evita in it along with a few cans of cat food, cat collars, harnesses & leashes sitting on the shelf right across from where the cat carrier is kept. I'll just toss them in the carrier with her.
Grab Abbott and toss him in the carrier
Grab the laptop, palm pilot, cell phone and purse
Grab my passport, which is on the bookshelf. While I'm there grab a few of my favorite books I can't live without.
Grab my stuffed animal Lobo and the picture of my father in my bedroom
Grab the pictures of my family that are in the living room
Grab my CD case which has all 350+ CDs I own

I'd run out to the car and toss it all in, this should have taken about 10 minutes
Run back in and grab my Led Zeppelin vinyl, the dry cat food and some cat bowls. I'm not worried about the litter box - I'll put them on the harness leash and see if they'll go that way.

The dog, her leash, my teddy bear (yes, I still sleep with one), meds, signature frame from my wedding.

and the server cpu. I would have a coworker grab the employee files, that's it!

If we have to bolt, the cat goes into the carrier, into the car with the dog, and I won't forget the keepsakes. There is always water and a bit of critter chow in the car, and a wool blanket, a couple of those thin silver emergency blankets, small knife, a corkscrew, and some music.

Pets, and keepsake box. All else is expendable. We be set.

my kid, the 3 cats, photographs, and any hand-made stuff like afgans and quilts, etc.

I can grab almost everything I need...

Unplug the comp and monitor - put them inside the big suitcase. Put a couple of jeans, pullovers, a dozen t-shirts, some socks and boxers inside too, take my wallet. Open the safe - get all my docs out, put them in the suitcase. Put my cellphone in my pocket, get my keys and I am out in less than 5 minutes.

I can't carry much because of my disability.

I'd be killing myself to get my cats out of the apartment. They come first. Everything else would have to burn.

The insurance will replace my old crap with new crap.

The black bag already contains copies of my most important documents as well as my wallet, my work papers, my keys, a flashlight and my 9mm (and a spare magazine).

In my car, I have an emergency bag with a change of clothing, blanket, water, food etc.

The rest is only stuff.

It doesn't matter what you grab, you didn't grab enough.

Give me my cigs and my phone, I can replace the other stuff eventually. I just need to smoke as I call out to friends for love and support.

I can imagine after the fact there is always a "something else" :hug:

I agree, stuff is stuff. There are some non-replaceable things I'd be very sad to lose, but in the end... if you have your life, that's the bottom line.

my dog (he's the most important, but if I grab him first, it'll slow me down grabbing the other stuff)

some hoodies, smokes, other smoke ;), important papers (fortunately conveniently located in one place), wallet, dog. There's two of us so we could accomplish that pretty quickly.

Considering the weight, we'd have to leave the amp behind but shit. The man isn't in a band anymore and I just play for pleasure- we could do without an amp for awhile. Although it would still break our hearts :cry:.

And I'd take the two hard drives out of my computer (Hooray for quality case design by Antec which makes that actually possible.)

I'd probably use my skateboard to break the window so I could jump out, so that'd come along as well.

I think I'd have to sacrifice my bass guitar though. :(

Anything else is replacable and can be kept lively in memories.

I mean, it would take 10 minutes for me to open up the computer and pull out the hard drive - why not just take the whole computer?

All I care about is the data on the drives-- my work, my music, my photos, my pr0n, etc. And I've got several hard drives collected over the years. I'd grab them and let the rest go.

Plus, my computer is old anyway. It would give me an excuse to get a new one :evilgrin:

journals, old letters, and paintings. The rest is replaceable (I'm assuming my husband gets himself out :))... beyond that if I had time, hiking boots, favorite jeans and a hoodie, stuff like that. 15 minutes is a long time!

I can get out of my apartment in under 3 minutes, from a dead sleep.

1: sweater, jacket, gloves, hat (in case it is winter out there.)
2: cell phone, iPod (they're next to each other)
3: laptop
4: emergency bag (prepacked with: passport, copies of documents, cash, smokes, lighter, scotch.)
5: out the door.

stuff is stuff. I can live for weeks on what I carried out, all my photos are digitized and backed up, I'd lose some precious art, but that shit's insured up the wazoo anyway.

Would grab:

All my original listed artist paintings (have 20+ of these)

The large framed pastel painting of my son at age three

My laptop

My digital camera

My computer CDs, both software and personal
(yes, have them stored in a basket for easy moving and ready access)

My purse
(also has my passport in it at all times...never know when it may be necessary to suddenly leave the country...)

Now, my 15 minutes are up :)

Most of my possesions end up piled in the backseat anyway, so I probably won't lose much!

First, send roomie and 4 dogs into my car...car down the street, while 911 on the cell phone that there really is a fire. I keep several fire extinguishers in the house, and I'd intend to use them. Open front and back doors, chair through the bay window for more ventilation.

I couldn't evacuate all my rescues in 15 minutes, and I wouldn't leave any of them behind.

Could be a hurricane, could be a nuclear war.

Just need to bug out in 15 minutes

I saw "fire drill" and assumed.

My answer ultimately doesn't change. Living in Florida, knowing the reality of hurricanes, I still wouldn't be able to evacuate that quickly. I'm staying. Besides, nuclear war? I hope I'm under the first one. Where do we run to?

I'd take jewelry, photo albums and a few pieces of clothing. Everything else can be replaced.

At that point I'd grab the photo album from the living room and the laptop, my camera, my book of phone numbers and my work files from my office and load them in the car, then move the car. I'd load the CPU from the desktop and grab some clothes for the kid and I if I had more time.

grab anything else we can't do without and then take off.

I was assuming a basic structure fire, I live in an area where a massive, windblown fire isn't a likely issue.

Assuming a flood or something where the whole nieghborhood had to evac fast, I'd load him in the car, toss in whatever else I could and be off.

Then grab my laptop and my cats and leave.

The emergency kits have clothes, food, water, etc. and copies of all of our policies and stuff. The laptops have everything else and the external hard drives are always with the laptops.

We can do that drill in five minutes, including stuffing the cats in boxes, from a dead sleep. (We've practiced - Mr. P works in the disaster insurance industry...) So that gives us 10 minutes to grab sentimental stuff (which probably means DH grabs the box of his D&D stuff and I grab books.

I'm half tempted just to shoo Evita out the door figuring she lived in the wild for 3 years and could probably survive on her own. But I'd rather keep her with me

when it comes to their boxes. One of them actually likes to sleep in her carrier, since it has a sheepskin floor and is near a heater vent.

With my now deceased cat, though... She'd have to go out under my coat. Getting her into a box was far from easy (though once she was in the car, she'd ride fine if we let her lay on the dashboard.....) As much of a pain in the ass as she was, I miss her.

THe secret is to get her collar on with a leash so she can't run away. That'll give you about 2 minutes to get her into the carrier before she what that cat did in that funny video where he clawed the man's penis

I'm the keeper of the family photos and documents.
And I expect my wife and daughter to get out themselves.
Everything else can be replaced.

Plastic Bin with miscellaneous crap that happens to be sitting near the door.
Anything else is just whatever I can grab on the way out the door.
