As a customer?

This didn't happen to me, but a friend of mine I was talking with yesterday.

The client was rude and condescending; telling him how to do his job. :wow:

1. Depends upon the job I was doing and the person's behavior
I have refused service to people at the store where I work because of their rude and offensive behavior - not often but I will not be treated like crap.

2. Yes
That is one of the great things about working for yourself. If someone gives you shit you can tell them to fuck off and walk away.

4. I suppose it depends on the disgust level and the worth of the client.

5. I have
I have in the past refused to deal with certain clients. None of them were very big spenders but wanted the top notch service, best rates for the the pathetic amount of money they spent with me, and on top just threw attitude like they were better then everyone including me. So I just stopped calling them and have given a few away to other sales people.

6. not automatically but yes i've fired customers
i don't care if they're rude and condescending, if they want to pay me and then tell me what to do instead of listening to my expertise, so be it, it's their money

however when i had my own business i did refuse customers who needed constant hand-holding yet were not willing to pay a price commensurrate w. the pressure they put on my time

best to be professional and take it case by case, sometimes a rude horrible customer is worth dealing w., my husband often works w. people in the poultry industry, where the top dogs are often just horrible horrible people personality-wise but as long as they pay on time and they don't eff up his work then he's willing to deal, but it's an industry where everybody shouts, he just shrugs and shouts back even tho he's not like that

you have to decide for yourself which jobs are worth the verbal abuse, keep em as customers but make em pay a premium

7. It's an interesting subject, telling ppl how to do their jobs
I got into graphic design because I was enthused about visual communication. I went to school for it and worked hard at it. But I have customers who bring me their finished layouts and who will not allow me to deviate much. Imagine if I took my car to a mechanic and, not knowing how to work on cars, instructed him to attach the steering wheel directly to the crankshaft, "because that's the way I want it, dammit."

Fine. Throw your money away. I'll crank out your ad in 30 minutes and wash my hands of it. And when your company eventually goes under due to poor management, I'll snicker to my co-workers and say, "Bastard had it coming."

10. You've reminded me...
of clients who advertised on a radio station I worked for. A few insisted on writing their own copy, which inevitably was too long for the amount of air time they purchased.

One in particular requested that I voice the ad he had written. There was way too much copy, but I did the best I could. When I called the client to play the ad for approval, he complained that I was rushing through it and speaking too fast. Taking the advice of my program director, I asked, "What would you like to cut from the copy?" He was taken aback. "Nothing," was his answer. He wanted nothing cut from the copy. "Well," I said, "This is a 60-second ad, and you have 75-80 seconds worth of copy. If you don't want to cut anything, I'm going to have to speak too fast."

He just did.not.understand this concept, and of course, I had no authority to tell him to stuff it.

8. I "fired" one client after he threatened me.
This guy was so freakin' scary that I used to have dreams that he was trying to kill me, and in the 17 years I've been in my field (Voc Rehab), I've never had that kind of dream about any client.

The last straw came when he accused me of lying about him, then he stood up, leaned over my desk, got in my face and started yelling at me. I told him if he didn't leave, I'd call the police on him. (He was Special Forces when he was in the military, so I wasn't going to mess around there.)

9. Yes I have - and I do it all the time .
I have permission from my supervisor whenever someone needs my help ( they need me more than I need them anyway ) and sometimes they act like shit to me , so I just walk away and let them bitch while letting them look stupid . It works everytime because no one wants to help someone foaming at the mouth . I refuse to waste my time .

11. If I were in a position to arbitrarily "bring the hammer down" on
people I disliked without having to worry about getting called on it I must admit that I would probably be tempted...
