A question for Allman Brothers fans
I recently bought the Live at the Fillmore East album (holy God, what an album), but found out that the album was reissued twice -- once as the "Deluxe Edition" and once as "The Fillmore Concerts."

I think both albums have the same number of tracks, but I was wondering which one of these two editions has the better sound quality. That's my only gripe with the single disc version that I bought -- the sound is lacking at times.

I have a $25 Amazon gift certificate, so if I buy either one of these, fortunately I'll be paying $5 at the most, so can anybody tell me which one is better? Thanks.

2. Paging Zombywoof....come in, Zombywoof....
I'm guessing ZW will be the most likely source of info on you for this.

Hmmm...I could use a Dickie Betts fix right about now...

4. some differences
2003 saw the release of a two-disc Deluxe Edition of At Fillmore East. It compiled all the released versions of the Fillmore material, some material from the collection Duane Allman: An Anthology and the Dreams box set, and remixed the material with a better soundstage than the 1992 release The Fillmore Concerts.

6. Sure looks like it
I don't have the deluxe version myself, but Mountain Jam is listed on the track list:

"Mountain Jam" (Leitch, D. Allman, G.Allman, Betts, Oakley, Johanson, Trucks) – 33:39

7. Wish I could tell you. Nothing beats them live. I saw them
in Boston about 20 times. Somehow my memory tells me the Fillmore is better, but don't go by me. Did you check reviews on Amazon?

... i think. yeah, yeah, i'm pretty sure. and i'm pretty sure i had a realllllly good time. no, i'm absolutely SURE i had a really good time. once, or twice, or maybe 3 times. sheeesh... it was more than 20 years ago. and God- could they jam!?!!!!!

I can't answer the question of this thread either but I got stuck in some flashbacks just thinking about it! Anyone remember Dan Ackroyd doing Jimmy Carter talking the guy down from the Orange Sunshine? Got any Allman Brothers?

Ya... the Allman Brothers jammed, SNL was funny, the 70s were cool. :smoke: end of story.

12. one thing i'll never forget was
an old friend, Johnny, who was totally fucked and went to pee before the Allman Brothers came out one night. I think we were at the CapeCod Coliseum...

He came back after about half an hour laughing his freakin' head off. He said he got lost and ended up somewhere backstage? or side-stage? or just somewhere he wasn't supposed to be and Greg literally bumped into him. and Johnny was like WHOA! You're Greg Allman! The whole night Johnny was laughing about Greg bumping into him. it was funny.

14. I wish I could have seen them live.
But I was born in 1980, so it would have been a bit difficult. :)

9. Go with the Deluxe
The Fillmore Concerts set is mixed a bit off, although it shouldn't have been, if only because Tom Dowd was present to supervise it.

Also, the Deluxe is more recent, so it benefits from advances in digital mixing technology since the Fillmore Concerts set.

Then there is that part of me that says "My hearing isn't as good as it used to be, so this is subjective". :-)

Good luck, and GREAT CHOICE. It's 35 years old and STILL the cream of live albums.
