A 14-year-old central Toledo girl told police she was abducted at gunpoint yesterday by a man seeking sex, but escaped after she hit him in the groin area with a hammer she found under his car seat.

The junior high student later told police she had previously learned in school that, if something like this were to happen, to search for a weapon. So the teen told the abductor she had dropped her ring in the suspect’s car and was searching for it. She felt the hammer under the front passenger seat, then put her ring back on, she told police.

A short time later, she grabbed the hammer and hit her abductor once in the groin area, Detective Harold Mosley said.

“That was good thinking on her part,” Sgt. Richard Murphy said of the victim...

It's nice to read a story with a happy ending for a change.

I'm glad she was able to think so quickly and intelligently.

So they know they can defend themselves.

She is someone who obviously doesn't wilt under pressure. She kept her head about her, and remembered her lessons.

That guy is lucky she didn't whack him behind the ear. With a hammer, he could have ended up broccoli for life.

WLSC Student Fights Off Attacker

A West Liberty State College student apparently fought back when she was attacked Monday night on campus, Ohio County Sheriff’s Department reports indicate...

“I just got away,” she said. “That’s the only way I could get away.”

The student said she was walking from her car parked near Krise Hall on the WLSC campus toward her dormitory at about 9:30 p.m. Monday. She told deputies the male said nothing. She said she was grabbed from behind by the hood of her sweatshirt and was punched in the face by the male.
