Teen Thrown 1,307 Feet by Tornado (Fordland, Missouri), breaks record
Teen Thrown 1,307 Feet by Tornado
Wednesday, March 22, 2006

Matt Suter of Fordland, Missouri, appears to have broken the record for being thrown a long distance by a tornado -- and surviving.

The National Weather Service measured 1,307 feet between the former location of Matt's home and the point at which he landed (unconscious) in a field.

The Kansas City Star has more details and an interview with the boy, as does the News Leader, which also has a photo.

Tom Grazulis, the tornado expert who runs TornadoProject.com, says that the previous record was 1000 feet.
