I'm a much happier man today. I got a raise
I won't go through the whole sordid story, but I have been here at this company for 12 years (that was Tues.). Because I worked my way up the ladder, I didn't get the increases based on the positions, but small raises.

After months of negotiations.. I just received a $7,000 a year increase. I am a little happy about this to say the least.

1. The bad news is...
Your interest rates, taxes and your health insurance premiums have just gone up $8000 a year.

Just kidding, even if it did you'd be worse off without it.

6. They have been going up each year
I was getting poorer and poorer each year. Pretty much like everyone else in this country.

2. Well, congratulations, but...
that sucks. The fact that they waited for 12 years to give you a significant raise is pretty shitty.

I'm glad you got the raise.

3. Thanks
I was ready to split, but they wouldn't have too much of an engineering staff if I did.

4. Now you don't have to drink Budweiser any more.
Go ahead, have a Pilsner Urquell. You deserve it.

Congrats, dude.

5. I don't know
I need to remember my roots. Back when I was poor (about 20 minutes ago), I drank what I could afford. Now that I have gotten here I have to remain true to myself and true to where I came from.

LOL, Thanks dude.

7. congratulations
most engineers I know have their salaries frozen right now (or close to it) and are lucky to still have a job.

while the cost of living goes up, uP, UP. :(

9. Thanks
Well, we were bought out and when they went over salaries around the country they realized they got me dirt cheap..lol. I pretty much let them know that I would have to do what I have to do.

12. Lol,
Well, it was more like "I'll just leave if you don't pay me what I want".

I feel a bit weird being giddy over this, but things weren't looking good for me lately and I can breath a bit easier now.

I think it will help me a bit. It's not easy being an engineer these days without any college, so I am kind of stuck here..lol. So, it was good news for me

18. Congrats. You deserve it.
I hate those double standards. They pay more to bring in new people because that is the prevailing wage but don't bring the long term workers who have helped build the company in line.

21. Thank you
I'm a veteran at this place..lol. I think there might be 5 people out of the 25 here that have more time than I do. A lot were let go due to down sizing. I was lucky they didn't trim my department, but there wasn't much to trim.

...with the long term employees always having to train the new employees who make more but don't know shit.
