Ex-"Raymond" star (and Freeper) Patricia Heaton eyes daytime talk show
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) -

Patricia Heaton could be the next sitcom star to host a daytime talk show.

Sources said the Emmy-winning co-star of "Everybody Loves Raymond" is in negotiations for a show targeted to launch in fall 2007. The project is described as being in the vein of ABC's daytime talker "The View," where Heaton would serve as one of multiple hosts, according to sources.

The project is being developed by Buena Vista Television, whose Disney corporate siblings Touchstone Television and ABC are already working with Heaton on an untitled comedy pilot being eyed for next season.

If the comedy and talk show were both to move forward, Heaton could follow in the footsteps of Kelly Ripa, who stars in the ABC comedy "Hope & Faith" and co-hosts Buena Vista's daytime talk show "Live With Regis and Kelly."

1. I can barely stand her in those Jewel commercials.
Let alone an hour each day. :puke:

2. I read a post-"Raymond" interview...
...in which she subtly bragged about being "difficult to work with."

Supposedly, she was not the most-liked member of the cast.

5. I can imagine.
Of all the cast members, I can imagine her being the most difficult to work with. Romano seems very down to earth, as well as Doris Roberts, Peter Boyle and Brad Garrett. I rather doubt that Boyle (a liberal Democrat) and Heaton didn't talk a lot about politics on the set.

7. I've worked with her.
She was lead and exec producer of a tv movie called The Engagement Ring.

I didn't find her difficult, but she is demanding. However, demanding is fine, imho, as long as she continues to sign the cheques.

As far as her politics goes, she has the good sense to know she's in a huge minority as a RWer on a film set, and she doesn't engage in political grandstanding.

I actually don't mind her. She likes my sense of humour, so how bad can she be?

What was a bigger shock was discovering SNL alum Victoria Jackson is a full-on bible-thumping freeper. When I met her hubby, who is a Miami cop, he was reading one of O'Lieley's books, and everything! Victoria asked me why it was legal for Sikh cab drivers in Vancouver to wear turbans. "Isn't someone going to think they're terrorists?"

12. I know... I was floored.

She's nice enough, in fact she's really quite lovely, but she's a full-on freepazoid. Total "Praise Jayyyzuzz"/"they hate us because of our freedoms"/gated-community/friends with Michelle Malkin kind of RWer.

At least I can say she's not a hypocrite; she lives the lifestyle she preaches. I just don't understand how someone as fundamentalist as she is can survive in show-business, particularly in stand-up.

on edit: here's how the "taxi driver" conversation went.

"CanuckAmok, I took a cab this weekend, and the driver was wearing a turban!"

"No way!"

"Yes, a real live turban. Is that legal?!"

"oh, I thought you were making a joke."

"No, I'm serious... a turban!"

"Well, he's probably Sikh, or just very stylish."

"Isn't he afraid that people will think he's a terrorist?"

"Um.... really?"

(Silence)

"Sikhs aren't the same as Moslems."

"What's the difference?"

"Well, for one thing, there's a general geographic difference, but beyond that, there are many differences in ideology. Comparing Sikhs and Moslems is like comparing Baptists and Jews, or Hindus and Catholics."

"Hmph... they all look the same... why would you bother trying to tell the difference."

"Okay... this is Canada. We're pretty big into multiculturalism up here. That's why the cab driver is free to wear his turban at work, and why he doesn't have to wory about someone blowing his head off because of his hat."

"I still think it's pretty freaky. If I'd seen the turban before we got in the cab, I wouldn't have gotten in. But I didn't want to be rude."

"Well, look, here you are. Not even kidnapped."

"Yeah, I guess not, but now I understand why some folks are a bit leary of Canadians."

"You're not kidding, are you."

"Well, not most Canadians, but the Hindu guys."

"Sikhs."

"Whatever."

(and then I found a reason to leave politely).

41. I couldn't remember which one she was
so I googled her name and to get a look at her "official" website. I clipped the following:

We spent Christmas at Lake Tahoe. It was my first time there. My jaw was hanging open the whole week at the majestic beauty of God.

I did my comedy act at Harvey's Improv. Howie was wonderful. Great to work with David Gee again. I sang my new song, "The Atheist" on Howie's radio show."The Atheist" premiered on TBN on Dec. 1, 2005 where Paul Crouch Jr. interviewed me and did a great job.

As the new year begins, I am back at the university finishing my degree. Last semester in Humanities, we studied Roman civilization and it is amazing to read Acts 17 after studying the Epicurean and Stoic philosophies that were prevalent at the time of the apostle Paul. Studying ancient history really makes the Bible come alive. References pop out that you used to overlook.

16. Yeah. I'll never forget an interview I read where she bitched about
her bosses for a sitcome she starred in with Jean Smart. Apparently, she got pregnant, and they had to try to figure out a way to write it into the story line. She said something like, "That's what happens when you hire a person who is pro-life" as if someone who is pro-choice would simply have an abortion in order to work on a stupid sitcome that lasted about 2 months.

18. The writers could have had a little bit of fun
The evil side of me thinks that the writers could have had a little bit of fun with this story line. Assuming that the character did not have a boyfriend in the show, the writers could have had a "whose the daddy" storyline or simply had her character gain weight. Of course, both story lines probably would have annoyed her.
