Damn, it's $1200 to fly to Rio de Janiero
and $1500 to go to Europe. I have got to get the hell out of this country for a while.

1. Gotta be a better deal
Seems to me we pay $600-$800 or so.

We have a Brazilian travel agent, and Mrs. Squeech haggles pretty well in Portuguese.

Where are you starting out from? The cheapest flights to Brazil AFAIK are out of NYC or Miami. And most of our trips actually involve flying into Sao Paolo and catching a local flight to Rio; see if that saves you anything.

Hope this helps. I'm very fond of Brazil, and that's where I expect to settle if this really turns into Republic of Gilead.

12. Thanks, I went to bed after I posted that.
I was plugging Balt-Wash into the Hotwire, Orbitz and Travelocity search engines. That's were I got the price. I'll try your suggestions.

3. Dude, that's what I'm talkin' bout. Then you have to have somewhere to sta
y, something to eat...

Me, I'm trying to get myself over to India, which is about a grand... and you can't very well go alone (well, as a woman you can't. I mean you could, but ... I digress).

4. I'd highly recommend Puerto Vallarta.
Most major US cities have direct flights. It's a great place.

5. My Dad just flew from Greensboro to Cancun for $375...
This is also the cheapest time to fly to Europe. Fly from either RDU or GSO, not Fayetteville.

15. Yeah, I never fly from Fayetteville, but I also don't want to go to
Mexico - had Rio on my mind and want to say I've been to South America. Gonna try to do all continents before I die (except Antarctica which is REALLY expensive).

22. Same here
I've walked upon five continents. I was planning a trip to Argentina last year. But the with limited time, I realised I would spend a lot of time on marathon busses. If I had a more open ended schedule (like in my wandering days of past), I'd do it. Now I don't want to return to work burned out.

And I'll skip Antarctica. I just don't fancy penguins in bikinis.

6. holy monkey, dude
That's crazy. Have you checked some sites like
TravelZoo, http://www.lowestravel.com/index_main.htm, etc? Gotta be a better deal than that. I know that TravelZoo sometimes has 1-week-inclusive to parts of Europe for <$700 (if you're willing to travel a bit in the US to fly out of a big city). Keep looking!

I was looking at going out of Balt-Wash, but I could also leave Raleigh or Charlotte.

8. you don't know how to shop
i've flown to europe several times recently as cheaply as $300 all-in to paris, abt the same to london, not much more to munich and frankfurt

why don't you install a program like sidestep or something that looks for cheap flights every day until you see a good deal?

17. Thanks, I had never heard of that.
My initial search was just on the spur of the moment, but I'm glad I posted because people are giving me all I kinds of ideas. I am somewhat limited by when I can get on a plane and go anywhere, because inbetween classes/semester/summer terms is best, but I do have some flexibility.

18. I want to go to all continents before I die. I have been to Australia
(which was great!) and Europe (and I will go there again sometime) and, of course, North America, so that leaves: Asia, South America and Africa. Antarctica is optional.

do. Travel is vastly mind-body-culture-expanding.

Alaska is great, too, if you get a chance.

25. Hurry!
As you can see from this thread, there are ways around the limitations. Do research and save your money and you can get trips into your regular hectic life. It is a matter of prioritization as well, of course. Sometimes other things just have to take precedence.

27. I'm debating right now where I want to go first.
It's a tie between:

Tokyo
Amsterdam
St. Maarten
Sydney

29. Sydney was great, but not all that exotic considering.
Clean, fun, eucalyptis trees, great restaurants and then you can travel out into the rest of the country - the outback, for instance, but remember, everything is much farther from everything else there!

I enjoyed London, too. Much older city, though.

Use trains whereever you go.

so, I'm sure you could do better.
