CSI is the stupidest show. EVER.

Even worse than "Third Rock From The Sun". The characters are unbelievable, the scripts are wooden, and the plots hackneyed.

Why the hell does everybody (critics included) think this show is so good? I've seen better scriptwriting in sophomore English classes.

The dialogue is particularly silly. "Look! Here on the doormat! It's some trace evidence!"

"Hey, Jimbob, you've got some mitochondrial DNA on your shirt"

Give me Forensic Files any day-- at least you still get the science fix without the hackneyed dialogue.

I have to confess that I watch it strictly for Marg Helgenberger. Hubba Hubba. I wish they'd bring back re-runs of China Beach. Mmmmm....

I grew up in Nebraska, there's not many opportunities for "omg, I knew that celeb when they were in high school" stories when you grow up in Nebraska. But here you go. Not really my story, but...

Marg Helgenberger grew up in the tiny town of North Bend, Nebraska. She was a lifeguard at the local pool and she dated my best friend's cousin. Like, seriously dated him. All through high school. Until he broke up with her. The idiot.

and one time i was watching a rescue 911, and some kid from altoona got his tongue stuck to the freezer...only in altoona...

but i know it has very little to do with realism....Having seen the inner workings of a couple of metro police departments up close, I knew from the first episode that NO department in the nation has the time, manpower, and budget to analyze/run tests on all the minutiae that they do...I know that only the FBI can be so thorough, and that's when they REALLY want to catch someone...

and adding the other shows has not helped....I've never seen an episode of 'New York'; they probably should have taken the best writers and characters from Vegas and Miami and just had one show...Honestly; the next studio exec that comes up with an idea for a cop show that takes place on the gritty streets of New York needs to be shot

You cannot possibly think she's attractive. Though I admit after her facelift a few seasons back she doesn't have quite that rode-hard-put-away-wet look that she had at first. (I have to suffer through the commercials if I can't find the remote fast enough to change it.)

After Connery's Irish cop with a Scottish accent, John Voldstad playing the accountant made that whole film, IMHO. I find that kind of stuff fascinating.

But you're right, we need to maintain the illusion that violent crime is rampant (even though the overall rate has been trending downward for the last 35 years). How else do we keep the populace in fear?

I kind of like CSI: Vegas. Better than Miami and NYC... I just find the latter two boring.

But Criminal Intent (as a show) is better than CSI.

LOVED Third Rock, like the original CSI, can't stand CSI Miami (it's a bush* thing).

Very interesting show, but how many times can you get interested in a murder crime.

I'd have to rate ALL of the "reality" shows - Survivor - being the positively WORST, now that I think of it.

beauteous Breck Girl hair...i have a friend, herself as well foxy-tall & beautiful, a real show stopper w/flowing red hair; that is a forensic pathologist in the los angeles county coroner's dept, she will tell you straight the hell up; that crap is strictly verboten to conduct yourself as such in that evidence is too easily corrupted x(

I read last year that enrollment in forensic science programs had tripled because of the success of the shows. Most of the students are now women. And most want to complete at least a masters in the field.

Sometimes that happens with popular television shows. Supposedly the success of Star Trek gave a huge boost to engineering programs. Quite a number of engineers who remember the series when it first ran have stated that "Scotty" made them want to study engineering.

If a show makes students want to study in science-related fields I have to commend it.

But Quincy was still a better forensic science show. Plus it had Jack Klugman on it. :D

But I do have to give CSI credit for getting more students interested in science, though I'm sure that was not the original aim of the show.

Crappy or not, if it gets more students interested in studying science then I'm all for it. There are better shows out there for them to watch and learn about forensics and I hope that a show like CSI works as a springboard for them to view the factual shows or even (heaven forbid) READ a book about it!

My best friend teaches social sciences on a high school level. She sometimes uses shows like The Amazing Race in her classroom to catch a student's attention and to garner interest in geography. She said the teacher down the hall (science) has used CSI a few times to get the students interested in anatomy.

I hate the fact that we have to sometimes dumb down things to get students to learn but it happens. My only hope is that a show like this will get students interested in furthering their studies on the subject, maybe learning what is really involved in that line of work.

The acting, the writing, the directing, the schlock value - all of it. Crap. Nothing but.

One of the episodes had a little girl - she looked physically about ten - though I think she was supposed to be 12. I thought it was about some Jr. Hooker plot or something, but turned out to be that hagard looking woman's (who's the female "star of the show) daughter! She (the daughter) was dressed like a streetwalker and wearing about 14 pounds of makeup . . . and the mom was ok with that.

I cannot for the life of me fathom why anyone would watch that show, much less think it was a "good show".

I liked CSI for a little while, but now it sucks. Out of the three, the Vegas one is not nearly as bad as the other two. I refuse to watch the Miami one. That main dude that looks like Opie Taylor is laughable as a "tough guy".

it was ahead of its time. Just look at all the cop musical shows we have on TV nowdays.

I'm taking Criminal Justice at college right now and intend to go on to law school afterwards and we hear plenty about the 'CSI Effect'. The shows have had a really odd effect on juries. The jurors are often reluctant to convict people because they EXPECT some massive super sciency slam dunk CSI evidence, which really doesn't happen.

It's good that juries want good evidence, but people are actually thinking this crap is real.
