Anyone else do any driving around today?
Good goddess, the idjits were on the road today. California lane changes in Minnesota (we are not used to it here), people dead stopped at the end of freeway entrance ramps, people not signalling their turns, and people at 4 way stop signs not waiting their turn.

1. That's the way people ALWAYS drive around here...
I tend to stay home whenever I can. Some idjit made a left when I was only about ten yards in front of her (and going 40)...scared the living shit outta me.

7. It was downright buck-nutty on the roads today
I think the snow starting to melt is getting to peoples' heads.

8. What's a "California lane change"?

That stopping at the bottom of the on-ramp is the stupid driver trick that most drives me crazy - I generally associate it with Texas, since that's where I saw it most on trips back and forth across the South. My first meeting with it was when I was getting on the freeway in my moving van with car trailer, and found a goddamn cadillac just sitting at the bottom of the ramp...

9. California lane change >>>
Edited on Mon Mar-27-06 02:14 AM by KitchenWitch
Person in far left lane notices that they are 1/4 mile from their intended exit, crosses several lanes of traffic and still makes said exit ramp.

16. Can't have
Californians drive like the world is ending in a light sprinkle.

I'm sure snow on the ground would have them all hiding in the basement with the canned goods.

20. Is there white stuff in the ditches?
I am series about this, BTW. If there is any snow on the ground 90% of natives will not leave the house.

24. It's pretty fun, and actually I think easier than a lot of other places
The trick is to remember that the CA driver will always try to go first, get in front, go faster, etc. - it seems fast and wild but it's actually very predictable, as long as you keep in mind that the guy in the other car is a self-centered jerk. Everyone is pushy, aggressive, and selfish, but it's rare that someone does something truly bizarre and unexpected...

22. You forgot to mention...
That they frequently do it without benefit of signals.

Idjits.

23. Yes and the probability of turn signal use
is inversely proportionate to the value of the car.

11. Wow, that sounds as bad as Nashville....
...do you remember Robert Altman's "Nashville"? He didn't put all the car wrecks in that movie for nothing....

21. Yeah, it's funny. I think it takes a native Nashvillian to pick up on....
...what he was doing. But in various scenes, people would be talking, and there would be a car wreck in the background, which is so true. Hell, in the opening scene everybody was coming from the airport, and there was gridlock, because of a traffic accident. It's hillarious....

I saw a documentary one time, where he was talking about that movie. He sent one of his assistants to do some advance research on Nashville. She stayed for a couple of weeks. Obviously, she was very observant, in that that's one of the things in the movie, that is sooo real....
