:blush: I was a bit disconcerted when a friend emailed it to me. I laughed out loud when I went to the site and wanted to share the laugh, didn't really think most people would be as gullible as me. Absolutely didn't think it offensive. sorry.

Someone posted about putting people "on ignore" a while back, and that reminded me to check my "ignore" list. There were a half-dozen people on the list, and damn if I could remember why I had put even one of them on it...

...because you enter personal data into a website that looks like a genuine motor vehicle website. That's how phishers get stupid people (like me, apparently) to voluntarily give up personal information. I hope to god they don't keep my info. Now I'm REALLY panicked.

They link to dummy sites and ask you to enter your credit information. There are even programs that can get onto your computer that will redirect you to dummy sites when you enter a legitimate one in your browser.

You really have nothing to worry about with what you entered.

ALERT on your message and politely ask the moderators to lock the thread at your request. They will probably do it if there is a consensus that this site is creating more controversy that you expected. Many of us are quite upset about data mining and PHISHING schemes. This web site tends to play into that paranoia, maybe unintentionally.

The actual owner of the site has hidden his/her real information by using www.shorturl.com to disguise their real URL link. That probably means they don't want you to know who they are through a "WHOIS" search. That's kind of suspicious, but maybe it's all innocent.

Perhaps the people hosting this site don't want the publicity or have gotten into trouble before. Maybe it's some lonely or bored bureaucrat who's skilled in software programming -- who knows? It looks pretty official and it certainly fooled me for a minute.

You must be on a lot of Internet sites! The Democratic Underground has been around for five years, but have you been around the whole time? (You've disabled your profile, so I can't tell!) Seen every DU post? Even if you have, why interrupt someone else's fun?

I've never seen this site before, and thought it was cute! Some of the best jokes are old jokes -- my husband, who is 72, still tells some of the same jokes from his childhood. My hubby tells the longest shaggy dog stories I've ever heard. Luckily, our grandkids are a new audience, so it's great to hear them squeal with laughter! I've probably heard ALL his jokes before, but I still laugh -- or at least chuckle.

It's only cordial to do this with friends and family. If you've heard their jokes before, then just don't reply. I find it quite offensive, for example, when I email my aunt something funny. Then, she emails me back that she received this 'whatever-it-is' years ago. But then, she's almost 82, and she should be glad she had this good a memory at her age!
