Idjit Driver - A RANT by KitchenWitch
Today, while I was playing chauffeur to my son, I was driving down one of our local streets. This particular street has been the victim of "traffic calming", meaning it used to be two lanes each way but is now only one lane, with a very wide "bicycle" lane. There was a car ahead of me, that slowed to a near stop in the traffic lane (no bicycles were present) to make a RIGHT turn. No biggie, I noticed that there was not any oncoming traffic, so I whipped my car across the yellow line to get around the idjit. Apparently this pissed said idjit off, and the driver jerked the car left, instead of right, and almost ran into me (on purpose).

Part of me thinks I should have let the driver hit my car, since I was the only occupant at the time, but man, what an asshat.

1. Don't you love that?
Ugh. Driving home almost always produces a rant in my head, which is gone by the time I sit down at the computer... I feel your pain. Glad you're ok, though!

4. Did you at least flip him off?
I would have hit the horn, flipped him off and mouthed obscenities in spanish (seeing as we live in Mexico).

Then I would have felt like shit the rest of the day.

3. The second time I took my driver's test
I failed because I didn't merge far enough into the bike lane when making a right turn.

The first time, FWIW, I didn't stop for a person standing on the corner that I thought was a hooker but the examiner took for a pedestrian. Automatic fail.

The third time the examiner was a hippie new-ager and she passed me even though I drove a whole block in the turn lane in downtown Weaverville. She said all she cared about is that I wasn't driving recklessly and I checked my mirrors frequently.

5. First, you broke the law by moving left of center into the oncoming lane.
Second, you do not know what that other driver was thinking. To assume that driver "jerked left . . . on purpose" is irrational.

I'm just sayin'.

10. It was on purpose
Edited on Wed Mar-29-06 02:15 AM by KitchenWitch
The person had already started to turn right when he/she noticed I was going around, then the person jerked the wheel left, almost colliding with me.

It was on purpose.

11. And by the way...the center line is a dotted yellow, not a double yellow.
