why do people wear rings like this?
Edited on Wed Mar-29-06 04:27 PM by StellaBlue

They're all the rage here in East Texas, and I, for one, just do not get it.

As we say in the South... taaaaacky.

:puke:

2. A lot of women wear them on their right hands
as sort of additional anniversary rings. I think some of them are pretty.

4. Fashion in rings like anything else. You don't like it - don't wear it.

7. Because they have extremely bad taste?

Of course, living in Texas doesn't mean I understand it sometimes.

9. Because they're Elvis impersonators?
I've got a ring with clusters of diamonds (lab-created diamonds or cubic zirconia...don't recall which) in an irregular pattern, but it looks better to me than that one -- of the Elvis rings I wear, it's the one I like best just for its aesthetic.

There're sure lots of ugly rings out there, though, especially for men (just as men's shoes in US stores, other than running shoes, tend to be overwhelmingly dominated by the ugliest footwear imaginable).

i wouldn't wear any rings were it not for my job -- for many years, I didn't even wear my wedding band.

10. People are desperate for attention.
Some people believe that flashy jewelry, expensive clothes and ostentatious cars impress other people. Sadly, stuff like that *does* impress some people. Not me. I see a ring like that and think "How sad that you feel so bad about yourself that you think that ring is going to make you impressive in some way. How many children could be fed with that money? How many people suffered mining the diamonds for that tacky thing?"

14. the more I think about it, the more I think

I guess it's like those people who come up driving Hummers. They think they're so desperately envied, when really I think they just look desperate. I assume they're stupid to waste money they likely don't even have on such a thing, which is, of course, the opposite of what they want and assume you'll think.
