1. Afraid to throw them out!
Chemicals are bad for the environment, so I generally keep them until the end of their lifespan. I've always thought there should be an organization that collected such things for people who need them and can't afford them. It's done with eye-wear!

2. they have those for AIDS drugs
but I imagine a variety of medications would be useful to those patients not just antivirals. Maybe you should do a search for such places in your area.

3. Never had non-working meds.
The physical stuffs pretty well covered even for the non-rich here in Aust. and no bastard psych doctor has ever had the opportunity to put me on psych meds, thank Rfitqc.

Rfitqc = Random fluctuations on the quantum continuum, as it happens I'm an atheist.
(Pronounced reh-feh-teck. (In australian accent), ie. like lunatic but with riffer as the first bit)

7. depends on what they are
it may have occurred when i was young and impetuous that pain medicines that didn't work out for me were passed on to someone who could better appreciate them

9. I bust open the capsules,
razor up the contents into a fine power, cut in a little baby laxative and Saniflush for a little extra kick, and sell little packets of the stuff to the always grateful neighborhood kids while they're waiting for their school buses.
