How did someone get the idea that its a religious college?
Its a public school. I think its probably a little of both, I mean it certainly isn't Berkeley however I know plenty of liberal people who go there and it's my mom's alma mater, and my mom is a liberal politically.

4. KLEEB!! IS THAT YOU?!
Hola, young buddy! Great to see your shining eyes.

BB season is upon us... perhaps your voice and mine will be raised together on April 14-15, as Mrs. V. and I are making a weekend of it, watching her O's and my Halos begin the season together.

:bounce: :hi:

6. Ive been back for a week and a half
Yeah baseball season is upon us again, I am not real optimistic about the Orioles, last season was such a tease, it started out beautifully, I mean what more could I ask for, the Orioles doing great and the Yankees in teh celler and then it flips on me, it seems like the division is gonna be all about the Yanks, Sox, and Jays. However I think the Angels have a great chance to not only make the playoffs but to go far.

8. If Garrett Anderson can nurse his foot back to health, yeah. They
need a big bat that can come through in the clutch. Their rotation looks pretty promising.

I am hoping for Tim Salmon to come back for one good year. Woudl be coold for the Halos Rookie of the Year to wind up his season as comeback player of the year.

BASEBALL!

9. I think Vlad Guerrero could be a good preseason bet for MVP
Last year was an exception with A-Rod winning the MVP award, most of the recent winners have been from the West and I think of the players from the west I give Vlad and Mark Texiara of the Rangers the best chance, the edge to Vlad because MVPs are usually one good teams too.

10. I wish it weren't that way -- that MVPs usually come from good teams.
Look at the MVP of the 82 American League Championship Series. The Brewers beat the Angels, but Series MVP was the Halos' Fred Lynn.

I wish sportswriters would quit putting so much emphasis on power at the plate and pay far more attention to the well-rounded players. Players like David Eckstein. He is a monster in the field, ultradependable at the plate no matter what the situation, and a fireplug in the dugout. Players like THAT should get MVP.

stepping off soapbox now. :hi:

11. Then the award would be best player
Though that sometimes is the case because Andre Dawson for the cubs in 87 and Ripken in 91 for the Orioles were both MVPs on bad teams. Power isn't everything I agree, I'd much rather have a guy who can hit for a good average, run well, hit good in the clutch, plays good defense than a one dimensonal power hitter like McGuire was I guess.

7. Its cool, rhetorical question
I think its probably more economically conservative than it is socially conservative, I have no plans to transfer there but a lot of people I know plan to, its the most common transfer point for NVCC people.

2. It's strange
A lot of the faculty are former government people, including Reaganites. Also, the board of trustees also tends to the conservative because it was hand-picked by former Governor Gilmore.

And yet, the student body includes a HUGE number of immigrants, commuter students who couldn't afford to go to UVA, etc.

3. Who cares?
I can see a concern if you have a child who wants to attend some place like Bob Jones U., but other than that . . . who cares?

I remember George Mason Public Community College (2 yr) from the 60's. Sounds like it's grown into a wonderful University environment. :hi:

16. I'm a grad student there...
The economics department is highly regarded from what I know, there are a couple nobel lauretaes over there. They do preach free morket economics. I am in the history department and I have found all of my professors to be very fair minded, but if you dig a bit all have been on the more liberal side (no marxist types)...

Roy Wiklins is a professor here too...

So a bit of both, I have enjoyed my time there!!!

18. I went to school there in the mid-90s.
I was involved in the sciences, so I can't tell you much about professors in the other departments.

However, there was a large GLBT community there. They were extremely active- with a whole week dedicated to GLBT awareness (with tables, speakers and a drag show). One of my friends, who was a lesbian, said that Mason had the largest percent of GLBT of any school on the east coast. Not sure if she was right or if that's changed.
