On DU as in life... what life lessons have you learned at DU?
I've learned that people can be more crazy than they appear, and that no matter what you say, someone will take it out of context and try and manipulate *your* words to fit *their* agenda.

That was kind of my reaction too, but I think the fact that some people may have made this place such a big part of their life that it defines them on any level, is a lesson to be learned.

Donald Rumsfeld is briefing Bush: "Yesterday, 3 Brazilian soldiers were killed."

Finally, Bush looks up and asks, "How many is a brazillion?

"I've also learned that people often don't realize the significance of their posts and, instead of clearing up miscommunication, will assume that anyone that misunderstands is being malicious."

Or attack someone whose opinion is different than theirs. Instead of just disagreeing someone and having a civil debate, they choose to instigate the same childish stupidity you see in school playgrounds like name calling, getting their buddies to gang-up on someone, start a derogatory/revenge type, copy-cat thread so their buddies can all go over there and stroke them etc.

Overgrown children.

21. I've learned that:
most folks are polite to Grannies (I rarely get flamed)

some folks are burdened with unbearable sadness and general despondency

it's okay to agree to disagree

a lot of people know a lot MORE than I about a LOT of things

Late at night when you're sleeping paranoia comes a creepin' around

There are assholes everywhere, but if you get to know them a bit, there assholiness decreases

Many DU'ers are lonely

Always keep my mind a bit open...like with MIHOP. I don't KNOW either way, but I'm thinking.

I like to DU more than do things I should do, like laundry, cook dinner, write lesson plans, etc.

Mostly they are life lessons re-enforced.

People are people. The majority of them are good and 100% of them don't think exactly like I do.

There are always going to be people who love to start shit because, well just because. It doesn't make them bad, just busy.

DU - it's so big! Just like in life, you can't meet everybody.

a couple things other people have said:

XemaSab: "Everyone has problems and some people have problems that are very remote from your reality, but they're problems that are important to those people. "

johnnie: "People are people. The majority of them are good and 100% of them don't think exactly like I do." I'd like to add that it's cool when someone sees something EXACTLY like you do. You run across that sometimes. But no one sees everything the same and that's ok. :)

Live and Learn. The internet -in general- brings people together. It's fun to meet people you wouldn't normally because of S P A C E. You can be *touched* by someone so far away. c'mon, c'mon, c'mon now TOUCH ME baby. (oops, i'm channeling Morrison)

I'm so glad Al Gore invented the internet. ;)

----

ps- i didn't answer this like a life lesson but i really meant to point out that we can learn a lot from each other and understanding the reality from which other people come is a very good and important thing.... just like in real life.
