Song Search and Retrieval by Tapping

This site lets you search for a song, by tapping the rhythm of its words (lyrics).

Let's say you have a song stuck in your head, and you don't know the name of it. Never fear! Load up our search screen, and try tapping the rhythm of the song on your space bar while humming the tune. Tap the space bar for each syllable that you sing. It's that simple!

1. It got "The Beautiful People" by MM, but it had nothing for this
strange industrial song I've been chasing for like ten years. Still no luck. Ah well. Still a fascinating concept. Thanks for a few minutes of pure fun : )

2. There is a similar thingy

in the UK for use on mobile phones. You dial 2580 and when it answers you hold the handset up to music which is playing for about 10 seconds and then the line auto cuts off. Less than a minute later you get a text message with the song title. I first tried it on a really obscure Artie Shaw number while I was out dancing and it worked much to my amazement.

It was due to this that whenever whoever is puzzling whether a tape is really Oooooooosamaaaaaaaaa they must be using really inferior kit.

3. Can someone try to tap this out for me?
tap tap-tap tapp tap-tap tap tapp-tap tap tap tap tap. tap-tap-tap tap tap pause tap tap tap tap-tap.

Lyrics as best as I can remember them: So here I go swinging low across that county line looking for the soul that left me behind.

I'm not sure those are the correct words, but someone use to play this song over and over again and that's the only part of the lyrics I remember.

6. Are you having a laugh ?
I tried what you suggested and it said it was the morse code for "does my bum look big in these jeans" ?

No seriously - someone couldn't duplicate what you'd entered as the system obviously relies on note spacing based on the way you use the syllables. I tried Swannee River and it worked - yes I know your spelling may differ for that : I'm english.

7. Are you English, really?
Okay, then you'll get this one:

How do you pronounce, "scone?"

8. Yes- I really really are as Shrub would say.
Over here that's pronounced either "sconn as in con" or as "scone as in stone"

Funniest thing was when I went down the south of KY a couple of years to visit a friend's relatives. Her aunt looked at me in total awe every time I said something. I was equally in awe at their accents. I guess we are all impressed with things we are not used to.

10. I was taking the piss.
It use to frustrate me when I first joined a british newsgroup and every now and then someone would ask, "How do you pronounce, 'scone'?" And a brit would answer, "It's pronounced, 'scone.'" Then an Australian would pipe in and say, "No, that's incorrect, it's pronounced, 'scone.'" And the Americans would wonder what the hell the two were fighting about.

After a few of these exchanges, I caught on. "Oh, I get it! It's pronounced, 'scone.'"

And thus began my slow descent into the madness of british humour...
