Girl Scout Mafia: FOUR DOLLARS PER BOX (Funding Trip To Europe)

I love the Girl Scouts and everything they stand for. They accept girls of all backgrounds, including lesbians, atheists, liberals, and all the groups the Boy Scouts (on the national level at least) despise. The Girl Scouts teach self-respect and friendship and self-determination. They encourage service and education.

However. One time per year their powers of good turn to pure evil. FOUR DOLLARS A BOX!!!

Yes. Yes. You could say that it's my choice to give into the girl scout mafia. But these girls are like dealers. I wasn't even going to buy any, but their sales pitch was just too persuasive. "Would you like to buy some cookies?" :) How could I resist them?

Yes, I'd like to buy some cookies. Yes, I'll buy extra boxes to help you fund your trip to Switzerland (to learn about diplomacy and world events). Yes, Yes. I'll try the new cookies that taste like cinnamon toast. Hmm... Better get a few more boxes.

I'm going to donate the boxes (I bought so many....I'm ashamed to say how many, but it seemed like a helpful thing to do at the time). I try to support kids that work, (except for Campfire kids - they get pure donation money, as their products are terrible) but I have no limits with Girl Scouts. None.

So how much are the girl scouts charging in your area? What are they doing with the money?

I think the going rate is 2 bucks a box here.

If it weren't only slightly more crazy than I'm willing to be, I'd drive to get those $2 cookies. :)

But last year, I'm almost positive they were $2 a box.

Maybe they knew how much college students would pay. I'm surprised they haven't set up directly on campus.

Heard that straight from the woman in charge of the Girl Scouts in my area. They charge $4.00/box here too.

The GS troop that was camped out in front of a local Safeway here had a big sign that read, "Resistance is Futile."

I almost wished I had the $4 to blow on cookies.

I'm bokmarking this thread and showing it at the next council meeting just for this comment!

We use it for camp, for scholarship cases (the girls who cannot afford GS still have the same chances), equipment and some leader training. Plus, we try to put some back into the community.
