Seriously, how does one properly "sod" in a "sodding off"? I have no idea, and I'm afraid to go to England because I know I'll make a major cultural faux pas when I sod incorrectly after some warm-gin fueled dockworker rat at the opium den has at me verbally with taunts and jeers in his barely comprehensible drunken cockney accent spoken through the wet wool of his muffler until, with a wild gesticulation belying the severity of the exploded capillaries in his nose, he delivers the final, debate ending "sod off!".

At least, I assume that's what England is like.

Why sod? Why not dirt? Or earth? Or mulch? Or is the sod of "sod off" not related to land at all, but something entirely different?

And yeah, I'm sure I could google it and find out myself, but it's easier to ask you, so sod off.

2. I wouldn't worry about it too much.
I think the dockworker will just stab you to death.

"Sod" is short for "sodomize".

7. Really? I didn't think of that - seems rather obvious now, though.
Since it makes so much more sense than dirt does. I'm surprised my otherwise filthy mind didn't even think of sodomize.

Thanks!

Though I have to admit, though it makes more sense to me now, it has now lost the quirky oddness I associated with it all these years of thinking it had to do with sod or dirt.

6. Peat. From what I've heard, Great Britain is largely composed of...
peat.
