Oasis' album 'best of all time'

Oasis's album beat the Beatles into second place

Oasis' 1994 debut album, Definitely Maybe, has been voted the greatest album of all time in a music poll.
The album, which featured hits Live Forever and Supersonic, beat the Beatles' Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band into second place.

British Hit Singles and Albums editor David Roberts said: "Usually these polls are full of records that people have only just bought because they are freshest in the mind.

"But this poll shows that the truly great albums always have longevity.

5. Very bizarre
Not only that Oasis topped The Beatles in this poll but the respective albums.

I've always considered The Beatles' crowning acheivement to be Rubber Soul and Oasis' to be (What's the Story) Morning Glory. (And most of my musically educated friends tend to agree with that.)

Odd that those two albums were the top two.

7. Most Brits have actually listened to Oasis albums, unlike lame DUers
and, atleast their first 2, are masterpieces. All the rest are atleast very good.

8. I agree that the first two albums are brilliant...
grudgingly so, mind you. Even though I'm not a huge fan, you can't deny the greatness of those first two albums. However, while you say the rest of their albums are at least very good, I would argue that there's a massive, gaping chasm between the quality of Definitely Maybe and What's the Story and the highly derivitive Standing on the Shoulder of Giants or the bloated pretensions of Be Here Now. And don't even get me started on the empty echo chamber of Heathen Chemistry. In fairness, though, I will say that I kinda dug Don't Believe the Truth.

18. Have you listened to "The Masterplan" or their b-sides?
That's their b-sides compilation. I like it better than (What's the Story) Morning Glory?

Seriously. Oasis b-sides back in the mid-90s kicked ass. In fact, a big reason why they were so popular in the UK and Europe was that they'd release 4 track EP's for every single with 2 or often 3 new tracks that were often better than non-singles on the album.

Their are several that didn't even make the cut for The Masterplan that are fantastic too - Round Are Way, Step Out, Whatever, and the definitive cover of "Cum on Feel the Noize".

As for their albums, I think Be Here Now is somewhat underrated. It's a really big, dumb, derivative arena rock album with outrageously silly lyrics - but it's actually very catchy and if you take it for what it is, it can be really enjoyable. Standing on the Shoulder of Giants was half good. Totally agree about Heathen Chemistry though - lame retread of everything they'd done before.

19. Great album
Greatest of all time is probably pushing it though - chalk it up to the Brits' sycophantic band-worship.

Still, it's one of MY favorite albums. Anyone who dismisses Oasis out of hand ought to listen to the song "Slide Away."

22. That's not even Oasis's best
They're entitled to their opinion, but NO Oasis album would beat any Beatles album IMO.

hell, they aren't even the best British band. Not in the 90's, not now...
