Which current TV commercial do you love most? Hate most?
I love the Geico gecko, even tho he is selling insurance. I love his accent and his moves.

I hate most local commercials that sell cars. Most local commercials are bad because they're done on a shoestring budget. But one today was so bad it was funny. Owner of a discount liquor store singing an entire rendition of "We need a little discount" to "We need a little Christmas" and even doing a soft shoe routine with it.

2. Hated: IBM Loved: Hilton
Only saw the IBM ad a couple times so maybe it got yanked. It used the Kinks song "I'm Not Like Everybody Else", cause everybody knows that IBM is a bastion of rebellion and non-conformity :sarcasm:

Was staying at a Hilton and everytime you turned the TV on it started some animation with a lovely Ben Folds song. It didn't bother me because the song wasn't directly opposed to the product (see above). My wife got to the hotel a couple days before I did and loved the song but didn't recognize the performer. Now she's become a fan of Ben Folds which is something I dig.

3. I hate all commercials.
Honestly, I go out of my way to not watch them (although that doesnt always work). The most current abominations (and reasons why I think the marketing / advertising industry is the devil) can be seen on late night Comedy Central:

1. Text messaging "attractive girls" on cell phones. The first service was called "Cellflirt" and now it's called something like "Text Toy".

2. "Guys Gone Wild". I hate to sound sexist, but, it doesnt quite work the other way around.

3. Getting annoying ring tones / wallpapers for your cell phone for $5.99. WHY?????????

Dumbass was stupid enough to fall for a prank that any drunk high school boy would have tried to pull off. Then he says "Ben, I'm filing a grievance."

Pretty obvious that he deserved a second whack. That's why I laugh every time.

And most fast food commercials make me want to vomit. The Burger King jumbo disgusting burger makes me want to spew every single time.

16. I hate all television advertisements equally.
And if anyone needs an indication of how debased, crass, commercialised and generally fucked-up American culture has become, I think the fact that people actually HAVE favourite TV advertisements is a damned good one. They're evil and insidious. Thirty to sixty seconds of cute, amusing, titllating or otherwise emotionally visceral imagery with, usually, a snippet of upbeat music that says 'Hey! Buy this useless shite! Throw away your money! Please!'

Just another form of mass psychology and propaganda, wrapped up in a commercialised package. (Yes, I am a cynic.)

in a long time. I was watching it to help my Italian along. It helped that it was so dumbass simple, the words were easier to understand and the not very complex sentences could be translated quicker. I still laugh when I think about that show, which I watched as often as I could every evening (something to do while we Americans waited for restaurants to open for dinner at 8 pm).

I think it's for A1 at least - I've not seen it in a few weeks, but it is for a steak sauce.

It's the one which opens with this woman at a table in a fancy restaurant angrily imploring the man opposite her (presumably her husband or boyfriend) to "stop" doing something. "Stop it! Stop it!" She looks incredibly embarassed while she's doing this. The man just ignores her. Finally she says "I don't even know you." The man gets up and walks away and a second later another guy sits down at the table. "Hi honey," he says. "I just spoke with the kids... did somebody eat my steak?"

52. There's no current one I love so I'll go to the next one.
I'm glad to be seeing fewer pharmaceutical ads; for example, 60 Minutes was, for a while, wall to wall BigPharm spots (the most odious ones are those that don't tell you a damned thing about the drug or what it's supposed to cure but implores you to interrupt your doctor's golf game to see if you should go for it).

But the one that's THE grossest has to be the Lamisil ad.

Yes, the one with that Spongebobesque character roaming around that bright yellow cheese-like field; when you realize that that bright yellow cheese-like field represents the smelly gunky toe jam under your nails, it's a little bit much for your digestive system.
