Good Friday Morning, Crew!

:donut::hi:
Welcome to the Friday edition of the Early Morning Crew thread! :bounce: TGIF! :woohoo: I hope you had a good Thursday and it went by without too much stress and anguish! I had a lazy day, myself. And I surely did need it!

I went by Best Buy yesterday and got my store credit for that Roxio software that never worked! :woohoo: The manager I talked to the day before came up and started to decline me because she thought I had downloaded it off Roxio's web site and had proof of purchase from them. I had to re-explain the whole freakin mess to her, but finally made her understand. Then, I had to hear how this was a special favor that she was going to do for me and that I shouldn't expect ANY kind of return on software ever again in the future. Damn it, I know that. In the end it worked out, but I didn't feel good about it.

We have one more work shift to get through and the weekend will be upon us! :bounce: Do you have any big plans? I'm going to get to meet AirmensMom in the morning for breakfast as she and HarleyDad come through Tallahassee on their way to Tennessee! :bounce::woohoo: I surely can't wait for that!

So are you ready to get the day started so it can get over that much faster? I am! SO let's get it on! :bounce:

132. I only vaguely remember the video
I wish there were a way to download old videos the way you can download songs. Of course I'd have to upgrade my internet service (I have dialup x().

I'll be back to normal in a day or so. I'm normally crampy and migrainy for the first two days or so every month, then it all dies down. The Percocet helps but if it wears off around the time I'm going to be going to be I won't take another dose. When I'm laying down the cramps subside on their own by at least 50%, plus I can use my heating pad which helps even more. Therefore there's no use wasting a Percocet, which I have only so many of.

5. Good morning Clint.
:hi:

You should have asked the manager whether she thought that refunding defective products is really a special favour? I presume that the U.S. has an equivalent to the Sale of Good Act.

I'm on Jehan Alain's organ works here, currently Monodie.

:hi::hug:
Oh, I wouldn't have let her decline me, especially since she told me the day before that I could return it. There are special rules for Software, DVD's and Music CD's. They may only be returned for the exact same item.

Organ music again? See, I couldn't stand that. I'd feel like I was at a funeral all the time!

14. I suppose if the only time one hears the organ is at funerals
then one is bound to connect them - but obviously I hear it at many other times. Also there is distinctly funereal organ music, and there is stuff which one would never have at a funeral.

Given that they've provided a defective product they damn well should provide a refund, to pretend that it's a special favour is basically an insult to the customer.

16. Yes, I agree.
I was just glad to get a store credit, so I left as soon as she handed it to me.

Yes, maybe not all organ music would be appropriate for a funeral, but they also remind me of Church. I'd rather listen to Country music or Pop music.

27. Well it is mostly composed for churches.
Loads of it takes its themes from gregorian chant, chorale tunes &c. I've got a couple of pieces which one really can't imagine being played in church - but which were written specifically for it.

37. Taking the prime example.
Louis Lefebure-Wely (mid 19th century French composer) he wrote 2 very grand pieces "Sortie in E flat" and "Sortie in B flat" which are both supposed to be played at the end of Sunday High Mass (as the Priests leave, sortie being the French for exit) - but in the style of the times they were written with themes taken from popular operas of the day, they sound more like fair-ground music than anything with a modicum of solemnity.

I'm guessing that Monday's because of Whitsun - that used to be a holiday here until the '70s I believe.

51. Yes, you are right
I always forget about the Frankfurt holiday (Wδldchestag = a day in the woods) that is the first Tuesday after Whitsun. Back in the days the Frankfurter went to the woods to enjoy the day. More and more companies don't have that holiday anymore. But we still do. So we work Tuesday till 1pm and are off for the rest of the day.

Either that or he's got narcolepsy.

He's been trying to sell his house and move closer for a year. I think I'd look for another job if I were him. :)

I have got thai vegetable soup - the only option available today. When they have a meat soup I have to go without.

I am feeling rather nostalgic; I was just reminded that just a few years ago I was not all that bright. (Good enough but nothing special), and now look at me go! I motored through the entire 3 hr lab (For chemistry at a level above advanced) in less than 2 hrs! It was awesome, so I spent a lot of the rest of the time doing strange things with liquid nitrogen. heh heh heh.

But I am careful.

Freeze water on one side of an upside down sealed U-shape thingy, and even in a vacuum the water on the other side freezes too.

OoooooOOOOhhhh, AAAAaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh..... spooky!

And nicotene and phenol were doing strange things....... (Edit: This from a war between the Gibbs Free Energy and the Entropy)

'I am tired from just looking at you, how can you do that????'

And finally, whoops, invites, dances, people having there photo taken with me, lining up for hi fives.

It was SO AWESOME!

33. Good morning Clint
Again: I ENVY YOU!!!!! (and AirmensMom of course as well)

Since today my boss is on vacation for two weeks so I am in charge of the library. I hope I don't get too many crazy people in here like yesterday afternoon. A lady wanted to have proof that Goethe and a certain lady had a child. There is no child. She just wouldn't want to believe it :eyes: ARGH :banghead:

Anyway, I just came back from the Vodafone shop as my cell is still messed up. They have to put new software on it but before they gonna do that I want to save my phone numbers and text messages on my computer. No way I am going to lose all the sweet messages from M. And I am not willing to write down and re-type in my phone numbers. First time I have that much troubles with a cell.

60. I gave her two books
one was about the Goethe and the lady, the other one a biography of the lady. Now she already knew those books and both don't mention it. She told me, well maybe in the letters from Goethe and that lady there is maybe written something ... "Ma'am I am sure both authors read those letters and if there would have been anything on that topic, they would have mentioned it in their books". Of course, the customer studied psychology :eyes:

not in those words but pretty clear nevertheless.

And I have to stay friendly. I just laugh about those nutcases later on. The frustrating part was that she wasn't open at all to the idea that Goethe and this lady never had a child. As far as one knows those two had a platonic love.

65. Lemme check
Edited on Fri Jun-02-06 06:04 AM by billyskank
On my last paycheck I was deducted 17.3% in income tax, plus 9.1% national insurance, so the Treasury took 26.4% of my money in total.

I am still a lower rate taxpayer. Up to a certain limit (a little over four thousand pounds a year) they take nothing, then they take 25% of everything you earn above that. There is a higher rate, where they take 40% over everything you earn above the limit, but I don't earn that much.

On edit: scrub what I just said. tjwmason has looked it up (see below).

I just needed an idea of the difference between Germany and the U.K. Not 100% sure how much taxes I pay but it is definitely more than 25%.

69. Depends on the level.
At first is the tax-allowance the first £5035 no tax.

The next £2150 (i.e. from £5035-£7185) at 10%.

The next £31149 (i.e. from £7185-£38334) at 22%

Above that 40%

Plus National Insurance (which is de facto income tax) but which is more complex :eyes: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/rates/nic.htm

122. Your employer takes it out of your pay for you
so you never even see the money. It's called PAYE (pay as you earn). Higher rate taxpayers have to do tax returns, but I don't know what that involves (never having had to do it).
