4. Virginia Beach, Virginia, to Austin Texas.
We had leave from OS A school at Damn Neck Virginia before assignment to our final duty stations. Three of us were heading west, two of us to Los Angeles. We would drive till we were too tired and the driver would climb over the back seat while the passenger would grab the wheel and slide over, and the guy in the back seat would crawl over in to the passenger seat. It took about 28 hours to get to Austin and dropped one guy of then we got a hotel room and slept for 6 hours then continued on to Los Angeles.

On tour with a band, and for some reason we played Ann Arbor on like a Wednesday, and had an early show in Seattle on Friday. And yes, that's about a 34 hour drive.

Hey guys, next time maybe look at a fuckin' map before you book the shows, huh?

Edited on Fri Jun-02-06 11:29 AM by jobycom
later.

Although I didn't drive the whole way. Three of us drove in shifts. No stopping except gas and bathrooms. We ate in the car. I stopped in Gulfport to pick up my parents on the way out, and to drop them off on the way back.

With me alone driving, I've made the trip from Austin to DisneyWorld in one shot. About 1100 miles. I love to drive. I usually take "long cuts" just to extend my driving time on long trips.

18. Solo, I did three 800 mile days in one trip
Western Virginia to St. Louis, St. Louis to Denver, Durango, CO, to Los Angeles.

These are 16 hours of driving, roughly, per day.

I also did a 20 hour drive from Denver to Ohio with my brother. We had no AC, went from 45 degrees in Rocky Mountain National Park to about 110 in the Plains states.

Middle of NC to Lake Erie. My sister and I went to see my dad and his side of the family for Labor Day 15 years ago. Man, that was the pits! I loved seeing Dad and everyone, but I was totally bushed when we arrived. We had to turn around two days later and do it again. :( I felt stir-crazy by the end of the return drive!

on the George Washington Bridge by the time I got there. I really don't remember the part after the bridge but somehow I made it home. I was driving a 1965 Ford Mustang. It died almost immediately after I arrived.

I picked up a hitchiker somewhere in Colorado. He drove some spells, to like, Indiana, but I didn't sleep much.

My mother was very, very sick. She died several months after I got there. It was a bad time.

Later on my wife and I - actually she was not my wife then but my fiance then - drove from New York to Colorado, but I slept fine in the passenger seat when she drove, and she slept when I drove.
