Who is closest to being your musical soul mate?
What I mean is, besides yourself, who has a musical taste most like yours? It can be a family member, friend, reviewer, DUer - anyone.

For me, closest would be my mom and dad, these reviewers: Stephen Thomas Erlewine (was even a Kat supporter on American Idol like I was - and when we disagree, I respect his opinions,) Tammy LaGorce (lots of positive reviews at amazon.com for albums I love,) Steve Jones (more in ratings style than music,) and I've had a lot in common with bif and LSK here at DU.

9. We don't always agree, but sometimes we do
As I recall, we both like Eisley, The Clash, Metric...

In order to be my musical soul mate, you'd need to meet a few conditions:

- think some stuff on radio is crap, but not all
- like stuff in most genres, except for hip/hop, death metal, and pure electronica to name some
- have the Beatles among your favorites
- give time to delve into upcoming artists
- and of course, LOVE music

10. Haha, the hip-hop stipulation alone rules me out.
Hip-hop = awesome.

6. Probably my friends Amber and Ryan.
And GirlinContempt and maybe Omphaloskepsis when it comes to DUers. Flvegan also seems to be a big fan of my tastes, haha so count him in there as well.

who loves the Carpenters as do I.

I know I'm missing some ToP fans, too.

11. I don't think I've ever met anyone with musical tastes like mine.
I like everything from cheesy 80's pop, to Jazz, to classical, to "modern" rock, to "classic" rock, to Blues and R&B, to showtunes. :D

17. My son
I started him off young. In elementary school he listened to REM and Thomas Dolby. My Tangerine Dream albums led him to Trance and other electronica. Later he got into punk and took my Ramones and DK albums.
Now I turn to him to get music recommendations. No one I know listens to GodSpeed, Merzbow, Animal Collective.

18. I was a college radio dj, and the girl that came on after me was
probably the closest I have to a "musical soulmate". She would come in to do her show and say to me, "Damn you...you played at least four songs that I was going to play!!" It happened a lot.

19. Dad
I remember listening the Beatless and Beach Boys as a little kid so I got my musical education young. Then when I was 9-10 i got in to Hendrix, Dylan, and Marley because of him. More recently I've appreciated so called alternative ocuntry music which is something I didn't like as a kid but I honestly love now. Goes both ways too since I got him in to the classical stuff I like.
