Birthday blues
Although technically it isn't my birthday anymore (that was actually June 2), I am feeling a little bit depressed over it. Not so much about getting older but about the fact that I have spent nearly every single birthday alone since I have been on my own. It is a lonely feeling. But I can't seem to connect with people, no matter how hard I try. I can't remember the last time I had a second date with someone. I don't think I am repulsive so I can't figure out why. I have a tendency to isolate myself and feeling this way is the result of that I suppose. But most of the time I don't really mind. Well some things I really mind, but the rules are no sex threads so I can't talk about how much I miss THAT.

Anyway, it is time to make more of an effort. I have to try and meet more people. Surely the odds would be better if I had 50 dates a year instead of 5, right?

1. Hey, I've been there...
and the best advice I can give you is to make yourself meet people (face-to-face). No matter how hard it is, you have to attend classes, go to a church, synagogue, etc. (whatever your religion might be), have hobbies, connect with old friends...let people know you are "looking."

When you make up your mind, the time will be right...I promise!

4. Thanks
I took myself out to a baseball game so at least I wasn't alone; I was with 7000 other people. And my team was losing when I left. Oh well.

But I guess I should go to bed. I get more maudlin after midnight.

I didn't mean to preach to you. Just didn't want you to hide yourself from the rest of the world!

9. No it is good advice

that I have to force myself to do. What with work, etc, most of the time I prefer to relax at home.

I really wish there was a chapter of Drinking Liberally here. I could do that (well not drink too liberally- guess I am a moderate in some things). The nearest is San Antonio, which is doable, at least once in a while. This is not a very good town for singles.

8. Well, Happy Birthday to you, anyway.
And may the next one be a lot better...and less lonely.

10. Well after I wrote this I got a response to my Match.com ad
that made me laugh. He said "I used to be a die-hard Republican until I learned it wasn't compatible with thinking for oneself". Or words to the effect. So maybe there's hope or at least a few good times ahead.

11. Happy Birthday, alarimer

I'll be spending my 40th alone. :-(

I've been where you've been, and I found I isolated myself because of trust issues. I really started looking at my whole life, growing up, my behaviour patterns, etc, and am finding as I am feeling more trustful, I want to meet more people.

I don't know if any of it applies to you, but I thought I'd put it out there. :pals:
