School's out!
The younger SonOfGoG finished second grade (homeschool) today. He's so proud of himself. At the end of the day, he was actually going through his box of school books and re-reading his favorite stories and science chapters... :wow:

1. my sister's kids just got out of school
She (my sister) asked me if it was August yet! I remember summers used to drag when I was a kid. "Mom, I'm bored!" was a common refrain. Now I am "wasn't it just March?" How can it be summer already?

3. I used to love summers
but the last couple of weeks before school found me anxious to start again. I want to do lots of stuff with him over the break. He learns best when he doesn't realize he's learning!

6. I liked school so I looked forward to it
It was always cool to get all those new school supplies and stuff. Plus I would get bored with summer. Not that much to do when I was growing up.

7. We used to visit my grandparents in FL every summer
And my parents would stop in interesting places on the way there; so that part of vacation time was fun.

2. You must be doing something right
if school's out and he's still reading...that's a good sign! I'm sure it's a lot of work, but it will be worth it.

4. I've got to find ways to keep him writing...
The fine-motor coordination that goes with handwriting is his weak spot. I'd love to find a pen-pal for him.

5. when I was a student,
All I could wait for was the muggy, overcast walk home after the last day of school to do nothing.

Now that I'm teaching, I think "hey, where'd y'all go, ya bastards!"

8. Maybe you should teach summer school
or be involved in some sort of camp..

It's wonderful that you're so enthusiastic about it!
