My alternator has gone out.
No problem, folks. I've got the next three days off, so I've got plenty of time to change it. I can afford the part. I have the tools to put it in.
But unlike Every Other Car In The Entire World, the alternator on a Honda is on the back of the engine under the fuel injection system. To remove said component, which I've done, you must:
1. Loosen front-left Jesus nut* and lug nuts. 2. Jack up front-left corner of car and put on jackstand. 3. Remove tire, Jesus nut, most of the front suspension. 4. Remove CV halfshaft. 5. Remove the two bolts holding the alternator in. 6. Unhook the two cables from the alternator--you DID take the battery out first, right? 7. Very carefully thread the alternator through all the parts that won't come out to get it completely out.
Installation is the reverse of removal except you must also refill the transmission--remember, you let all the oil out when you took off the axle.
* It's an aviation term--the Jesus nut on a helicopter is the one that holds the main rotor on--many helicopters only have one nut holding on the rotor head. It's called a Jesus nut because He's the next person you'll see if it falls off in flight.
