I found him...THE FOUNDER OF THE INTERNET (no kidding)
Dr. Lawrence G. Roberts

Founder of the Internet

O8)Thanks Larry. Without you, The Lounge would never have existed (in its current form)O8)

Geez, I used to work at one of the companies he headed up, shortly after he left.
This is all true and he's THE original DARPANET guy.

So there you have it, THE founder of the internet...but Al Gore made it possible with NSFnet support.

Look what he's doing now!

credit for inventing "the internet" before it was the internet.

It's a fun history, since there's no official historian. Clearly, opening up NSF net was the key along with the ability to freely navigate the web.

Telenet, Robert's startup that was the only decent public data network in the 80's, had a service called PC Pursuit, which is a real WWW predecessor. The service gave PC bulletin board users a flat rate (before AOL did that) access to Telenet's network after dark. Telenet's network was all business, all the time so night time, non prime was down time. A ton of PC bulletin board freaks took up the offer and went wild, really stirred up national discourse. That was 1986-87. Highly innovative. Then GTE, which owned Telenet but didn't meddle, threw the company in with the merger with some lame ass Kansas phone company just to get rid of Sprint. Poor vision, for sure.

Dr. Roberts was a true genius but a little eratic. As a result he needed constant ocmpanions.

I confess, some time after John Barth's and long before Goat Boy on SNL, I was a "handler". That's Don, the other handler of Mr. Internet, and me waiting for him to arrive at work. We're sans cattle prods but they were near by you can be sure;)

8. Well, 40 years ago, this guy wasn't a boring & there was no gray hair....
...and that's all I'll say because the dude will track my sweet ass down, attach electrodes to
my frothy pool of pod pudding and boil me alive...

Actually, when I saw the picture, I thought, damn he's looking old ... but not me, no way. See my pic above.
