1. Why is it you're not both?
I can see both. They're just two aspects of the same thing.

3. I guess you're right....
Although I think the "sad" side of it is winning! I'm one of those parents who never wants her kids to grow up.

5. Makes sense.
If your emotions begin to get extreme, that is to say, if you find yourself dwelling on not appreciating your daughter's achievements, perhaps writing down the pluses and minuses of this as it affects you will put things in a helpful perspective. Meanwhile, please have your emotions as they're filled with lots of important information.

Btw, mazel tov.

22. Go well and be well.
Energy is neutral, my friend. It's what we do with it that matters. You know this. Blessings for clarity and right action for you and your daughter.

Edited on Sun Jun-04-06 08:54 PM by leftofthedial
I still can't figure it out,

but after two weeks of Dad's taxi for her and her friends to parties, get-togethers, and other events, I'm leaning toward happy! I'm so proud of her I could bust.

CONGRATULATIONS!

6. Congratulations to you!
Mine has probably been to at least 8 parties in 2 weeks! I'd thought about having a graduation party, but now I'm glad I didn't.
She's going to away to college in the fall and that will be the toughest thing...even though it's only about an hour and half away.

10. Close enough to come home to do laundry, right?
Originally, mine wanted to go to school across the country. I'm glad she realized that since I don't fly, she wouldn't see me much...and she'd miss me! She actually told me that!

4. You're happy...
You're just not quite sure of it yet. Give it some time to sink in. Do the cheers and tears bit and then...

Be proud.

And congratulations!!!

9. Thanks!
I'm sure I'll be crying happy tears tomorrow! I'd better remember to wear waterproof mascara!

11. Better yet,
Skip the mascara entirely. And don't forget sunglasses, no matter what the weather's like. Hides the red eyes, y'know, so the pictures afterward will look better. At least the ones you take outside.

When my oldest graduated, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry or cheer or what. I've got another graduating next year...comfortable shoes, minimal makeup. I learned.

I remember.

Enjoy the occasion.

:hi:

12. Good advice
My other daughter graduates next year! Two in a row... My nest is going to empty out quickly. I won't know what to do with myself! I guess I'll be spending more time in the Lounge!

24. Oh, I just saw this, Ptah, and cried like a baby!
That really was beautiful, thanks.

Nothing marks the passage of time, quite like watching children grow up, huh?

anticipation of that day...but not really. :(

18. that's great
I understand your feelings. When I dropped my son off for his first year of college I felt like I was losing a good friend. We watch over our kids, give them the best advice we can but there comes a point when we have to let them free to do what they want and to become the adults we always hoped they would be.
Enjoy the ceremony and best wishes.

20. Of course you will be both happy and sad!
You are happy she is growing into a young woman, but sad your baby will be leaving the nest soon.
I don't have children of my own, but I've seen it often enough, and know it would be my own reaction, too.

Congratulations,

by the way!

But honestly, I think I'm more happy than anything, especially now that I think he's decided to go to college.

Edited to say: Congrats to you both!
