How about a raspberry plant question.
I have Googled for an hour and can't find an answer. I have 6 red raspberry plants that have grown great and spread. A friend wanted some sprigs to transplant. I dugout a couple of newly formed volunteer plants and put them in a containers with potting soil and dirt. They died almost immediately.
Anybody have any experience with them?

The best time to transplant is immediately after the plants have finished producing, if the weather is cool. Otherwise, I would suggest you wait until late winter or early spring. Plant raspberries in full sun, in soil that has ample amounts of organic humus mixed into it. Organic humus is compost, well-rotted manure, peat moss, etc.

Early spring seems to be the best time. Just cut them back about 1/3 when you replant, keep them well watered and mulched and they should be okay.

Good Luck!

6. Raspberries are runners, ie
spread by their roots. So, try this: Dig up a chunk of root (about a foot long), leaving the dirt around it and bury the whole chunk in the selected location. What AmyDeLune said about location and feeding.

2. Depending on where you live, early summer is about the WORST time
you could pick to divide and replant any shrub/rose/perennial etc. Personally, I'd wait till the fall-you'll have much less work keeping the baby alive that way...

5. Some of my raspberry and blackberry "bushes" were started
from cuttings. I'll ask my brother-in-law (state forester) how he did it, and I'll bookmark this thread and try to remember to come back with his answer. :hi:
