Poll question: Oilers or Hurricanes?
Considering, in my opinion, that professional hockey has no place below the Mason-Dixon line, I'm pulling for the Oilers. As far as I'm concerned, the Hurricanes are still the Hartford Whalers in bad uniforms on a 10-year road stretch.

Underdog factor. Not that the Hurricanes were picked to even make the playoffs before the year started.

This is 2 finals appearances in 4 actual years for the Canes though, so I don't know about any of that Whale talk.

15. hubby got there very early the day
after game 7 with Buffalo.

Except for the tickets that Ticketmaster had "held back" - and released sometime last night - it was sold out for seats - though I hear there are still a handful of $250 standing room only spots left.

We've been Caniacs since they got here.

Hey - you can :sarcasm: all you want - WE'RE going to the STANLEY CUP! (for the 2nd time in 3 seasons.)

Canes win the 1st one.

OMG - what a game. It was a very lackluster 1st period. (and the ref'ing totally sucked. as usual.) The 2nd period was "ok" but still nothing to get really excited about.

But the 3rd period! Non-stop bedlam. The decible meter was registering 126.. incredible. Incroyable.

Awesome, baby.

GO CANES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm told Roloson is out for the series. :o

Even so, I hope it stays exciting and is dragged out to 7 games - I dread having to wait 3 months for hockey to begin again.

You should go to Wednesday nights game too, should be plenty of tickets left.

19. We got tickets to Game 5
- but with Roloson out I'm wondering if it'll take that long!

I'm sorry the guy's hurt. I hate that to happen to anyone. But man - they should have been giving their backup goalies *some* playing time, doncha think?

I seriously doubt there'll be any tickets left. (Except the ones the NHL "holds back" for some unknown reason.) There's no way we can afford to go to two more games - heck we couldn't afford the ones we got - but hubby's all - "but HONEY - it's the Stanley Cup!" Poor baby didn't get to go after all - he was on a plane and didn't get to see the game anyways. :(

Oh well. The boys and I had fun! Fun! FUN!!!!

58. I really am sorry for the goalie
and as much as I'd love to win the Cup - I hate that they've lost their "good goalie" - because now people will say that's the *only reason* we won (if we do.) Of course, this could give their rookie goalies the boost they need to get it in gear. I've seen it happen before.

Adversity gives your team that little je ne sais quois (sp? - I can't remember anymore - too many languages!)

I am SO relieved, however, that NO ONE can *say* that our guy deliberately took their goalie out - it was clearly Bergeron's play that caused the injury.

The nose bleed tickets are about 10 times what we usually pay. :(

34. The NHL holds tickets for different hockey people.
They always do in the finals. If they don't use all of them, they will release those they don't use to the public the day of the game. The Canes are holding a few also for anyone who wants to put a deposit down on next season's season tickets. Those they don't sell by that method they will release also. Otherwise, the series is sold out except for standing room only.

Sorry, but I hate Edmonton.

This is a terrible playoff, IMHO; I'm a bluejackets fan first, so that's out. I'm also a Red Wings fan so that's out, too. Then I rooted for the Sabres, but, again, that's out.

It just seems like an anticlimactic Stanley Cup, but we'll see.

Either way, that was a GREAT game last night.

Small world. As far as the Canes go, they aren't in financial trouble. However, management doesn't always make the best decisions, especially the massive price escalation from the first two rounds to the second two rounds. While we expect them to escalate round to round, they tripled. That's greed for you.

28. To many teams to follow
I'll start watching the NHL again when they bring back the Norris division and Wales conference, etc, etc...

:)

Seriously I'm still a hockey fan in theory but just haven't followed it in years for a few reasons, the last expansion and reorganization in NBA style did contribute a bit to that lack of effort on my part to keep up.

And no it's not just naive nostalgia that's not my style (I supported building a new Boston Garden for example) but there is something to be said about tradition and culture when it comes to the NHL. Not everything needs to be mass marketed to be good...but then I guess that's anti-capitalist of me. :)

68. It's nice having NCSU, DUKE and UNC fans united to pull for a team!
Kinda fun having hockey to unite all of us triangle folks who normally can't sit down and watch a game together w/o having people rooting rabidly for their respective teams! :hi:

67. Stick a fork in it. This is so over.
If Edmonton can rebound and drag this out it would be great, the thought of having to wait 3 months for hockey to start again is too frightening to think about. However, if tonight's game is any indication, forget about it. Great game for the Canes though.

70. The Canes played
for three periods this time. I knew the team was mad about how they played in game one. They stayed in Edmonton's passing lanes all night. Also, the Oilers were out of position nearly the whole game. They were overskating plays and other times, someone would move to cover the point while they were on defense leaving the slot open which the Canes exploited. This was easier to sit through. Commissioner Bettman was sitting one row down to my left. Also, Chris Berman was at the game, Kid Rock was there, Steve Smith of the Panthers, and a few others that escape me at the moment.

Go Canes! We're two away now.

82. You didn't need the sarcasm thing,
I know what you mean. Just mentioning names that were present. You can't always choose who shows up.;-)

79. We're torn -
between a SWEEP -

and the fact that we have Game 5 tickets.

Of course, if Edmonton doesn't play any better than they did last night - I don't think we'll have to worry about Game 5.

We get "so much snow" - the entire place just shuts down when we get it.

81. They'd better
really get GOING after last night's dismal performance. :(

Heck, it was a hockey clinic put on by the Canes. Even the announcers - who don't like the Hurricanes - said the Canes played just about a perfect game in every aspect - and that the Oilers played perfectly awful.
