Poll question: French Fries - Wavy or Straight?
I realize I'm opening myself up to snarky commentary when I ask about 'straight' fries, but ... what the heck!

1. I see no waffle option.
All things are better when waffled.

3. Waffle fries are an abhorration...
Hence my studied disregard for their rights. ;)

5. Julienne, sil vous plait.
No, really, I prefer the straight cut. I just wanted to type "julienne." Sorry I didn't mean it. Sincerity isn't everything.

6. Crinkle cut holds more ketchup (or any other kind of sauce).
It's the grooves that enables your fry to hold on to more ketchup.

However if I am going to be a purist, I am going to state that the chip, as it should be known as, has got to be at least 15mm square in its cross-section and at least 30mm long (preferably more like 150mm long to be uniform about it). Oh, and cut straight.

But I do prefer crinkle cut (i.e. "wavy"). It does hold on to more sauce.

Mark.

7. Great, the Scientists are out...
How very Darwinist of you ... you with all your scientific measurements, cross-section studies, and liquid-surface-tension observations! Hmph!

:P

9. Well, I did go to engineering school.
But I didn't graduate :(

In any case it's all just taste.

8. Straight, and with real mayo.
And I don't mean the brand "real mayo"!

11. Don't care, they're all deep fried potatos,
How they're cut doesn't make a bit of difference in the flavor.

12. Ah, contraire, mon ami!
But even if its true that potatoes remain potatoes no matter their slicing orientation, can't us Tuber Gourmands hold onto our cherished misconceptions and debate their merits and demerits ad nauseum? We could hardly be gourmands otherwise!

Not enough places make them like that anymore.
