1. There are some others too
The Australian Kangaroo (they call it a nugget):

Chinese Gold Panda:

The Krugerrand is 22k Gold, and the Kangaroo and Panda are 24k gold. Don't drop them.

2. Don't buy coins by carat weight. Buy according to purity. The Maple Leaf

is five nines pure, the highest rating for investment
gold. Accept no substitutes.

3. it's the same amount of Gold
All those bullion coins have an ounce of gold. The 24k coins weigh less than the 22k coins because the 22k coins have alloy metals. The 24k coins are prettier color and designwise IMHO, but don't be a klutz and drop them on the floor because you'll ruin the images. Dropping a 22k coin won't damage it (much) because the alloys make it much harder

4. A one ounce gold coin at four nines pure is not as good an investment

as five nines. Five nines is accepted anywhere
in the world.

Don't trust me trust the bullion sellers.
The Maple Leaf is on par with investment
wafer.

5. *sigh*
Funny, I used to sell bullion. The coins were always slightly more expensive than the bars, and were all about the same price (panda, eagle, mapleleaf, krugerrand, kangaroo, etc). I've never heard anything about 4 nines vs 5 nines before with regard to investment. Honestly, it's a better investment to get 22k Gold because if you happen to drop a 24k Gold coin, you will lose some money selling it because you've screwed the coin up.

All of the major coins are accepted everywhere in the world, as everyone in the world knows that there is an ounce of gold in them, and the 4 vs 5 nines stuff is just a measure of purity, not of worth.

6. I looked back at an old interview I did with the Canadian Mint....

As it turns out you are correct I am over selling
five nines in terms of it's importance to the coin
and bullion market as a whole.

After second thoughts I would say buy five nines
only if the price is close to four nines and not
a lot higher than the average spot.

I'm not an expert so you can take what I say with
a grain of salt.......or gold.
