Anyone else had pneumonia this year?
I somehow managed to develop it in 24 hours after a mild flu. Went from feeling fatigued to running a fever and not being able to breathe. I'm 25, flu season should be over, and I even had my freaking flu shot! My doc was kind enough to write a note allowing me to miss classes this week. Good thing...judging by a couple of my posts today, my mind is just not in good order.

1. Pneumonia. :(
Hi melnjones. :) I'm 26. I have a pneumonia story, though it didn't happen this year. In January 2005 I was recovering from what I suspect was a particularly nasty flu. I'd never had pneumonia before, so for several months I wondered why I was having serious troubles breathing. After four months I started having light-headed dizzy spells several times a day, had a racing heartbeat, couldn't swallow because it felt like there were gobs of mucus stuck in my throat (yum :p), lost my appetite and eventually got so bad that I had to seek emergency care, without health insurance.

The lesson here is, untreated pneumonia will indeed kick your ass. *nods*

2. Thanks for the story...
I'm sitting home right now instead of being in class and feeling somewhat guilty for it, but I don't have insurance either. No way can I afford to end up in the hospital. I feel a little less guilty now:-)

7. Sure is. :)
It's from "Strange Fire", a song by the Indigo Girls.

9. ha!
Funny story...a good friend and I have only known each other for less than a year. One of the reasons we knew we could be friends was when we figured out that her favorite music group is Indigo Girls and my favorite singer is k.d. lang. We're both studying to be ministers at a seminary, both straight (she's married actually), and we decided to stir things up by doing a project together last semester on homosexuality. We ended our presentation with that song. I had never heard it before but it's a good song. We opened it with a clip from the Daily Show to loosen up the classroom a little and get them to laugh. It mostly worked:-)

4. I had pneumonia (the BAD kind) in April.
I was in the hospital for fifteen days and am just now
feeling near normal. I am days away from finishing
the six weeks of antibiotics (clindamycen).
I hope your pneumonia episode is brief.

5. Haven't had pneumonia since I was kid.
Knock wood, over and over and over and over again.

I hope you feel better very soon.

6. Yep.
So did my brother a state away.

The doc I saw said he had "never seen so many cases of pneumonia in his life."

8. I had it in 2004, at age 24 for...a while.
Mine ate through two scripts before it could be bannished. Sucked like no illness had sucked before. And yes, before anyone asks, I am otherwise healthy. It was just a bad case of pneumonia.
