7. I'm not sure
I always get a long winded answer when I ask of the parameters of emo. Are either The Dismemberment Plan or The Paper Chase considered emo bands?

8. I can't figure out what "emo" means.
Near as I can tell, it's what they used to call "alternative" ten years ago.

32. According to this everything is emo
Fugazi, Lifetime, Samiam, Dag Nasty, and Hot Water Music...I didn't notice Pegboy

Although I guess they are somewhat responsible for the current raft of emo crap

35. Emo, at its most basic meaning is, like the site says, emotional punk rock
Though, to quote Cedric from The Mars Volta, it's, "the most ridiculous label ever. How can anything you put your heart and soul into not be emotional?"

21. My operatives have informed me "Emo" is more of a whole "scene"...
Similar to, but, entirely different from "Goth".

Whereas, "Alternative" is a group of music "genre" which could include "Emo" along
with any number of other non-music establishment genres.

16. LOL @ urban dictionary
I clicked that link & there were a lot of negative posts about the genre. All I can say is that emo is not really a "mainstream" genre of music, so of course some people are going to hate on it and say things like "Emo is garbage pop and all it's listeners are depressed anti-social outsiders." It's like making a generalization about country music such as this "Country music listeners are all trashy hoosiers who have no teeth and beat their dogs and wives."

22. Yep.
That's the danger of those "reader-built" databases. (Like Wiki)

I can understand liking music from within a genre without buying into
the whole scene. I've done that many times in the past.

:D
