Anyone else here into modern ruins photography?
Edited on Thu Jun-08-06 09:25 AM by Beware the Beast Man
I'm not a photographer, but if I was, this would be my key subject. I stumbled upon this particular subject a few years ago while googling info on an abandoned mental hospital near my hometown that was being torn down to put up a Super Wal-Mart (:grr:). It's definitely striking, eerie and surreal.

Here are some links as examples:

And here's info on the aforementioned state hospital (Dixmont):

Excellent work, but a little dark for my tastes. :)

Definitely make for great photographic subjects. Sadly there aren't many around here. I did find an abandoned church yesterday, but didn't have my camera with me.

5. One of my biggest regrets,
was not sneaking on to Dixmont property as a teen. I was too chicken. I bought into the whole local mythology of the place (it was booby-trapped, there were still patients squatting there, armed guards, etc.). Damn you, Wal-Mart.

8. My explorations have been curtailed in recent years...
There are way more higher fences around, or so it seems to me.

10. Yeah, there sure is.
Shit, our licence plate motto should be changed to "Once grand infrastructure gone all to seed."

12. Thanks
A coworker and I have decided to go photograph some places, and our google searches were not coming up with anything that was not over commercialized.
