Any Latin scholars? What does Bill Maher's riser say (Latin phrase)?
Edited on Thu Jun-08-06 01:33 PM by Radio_Lady
Visible along the edge of the riser for a few seconds at the beginning of his show "Real Time with Bill Maher" -- now on hiatus until August 2006.

It's supposed to mean "keep it real" -- doesn't stay on for very long.

Also, the backdrop says DAYS -- MINUTES -- SECONDS. What does that mean?

Any input would be appreciated.

In peace,

2. I'm no Latin scholar; but the Days, Minutes, Seconds thing...
might be the countdown until Dumbyass is out of the White House...

3. Thanks, Goddess. That logo is on the back screen or wall --
The camera never focuses on it at all.

Appreciate your post.

7. Cute! I love it, too!
Better than the one that counts down to oblivion -- some kind of an atomic clock to our final fate.

Yikes.

5. Do you know what it says?
Not 'tempus fugit', does it?

9. No, not "tempus fugit" -- someone had a translation of it on some site.
It's supposed to say, "Keep it real!" I'll have to go and get the phrase -- stay tuned.

6. Can you post the phrase?
Maybe those who don't watch him can try to translate it?

BTW, my wife called into the Language dept at a local university once for a Latin phrase translation, and they did it on the spot. Now they wouldn't normally do this for larger tasks (she'd know, she's fluent in another lanuage, and was a translator for a time).

8. I'll try to order the show ON DEMAND from Comcast and get my
hubby to pause it on the opening shot. Maybe I can make it out.

Thanks for your comment.

10. I didn't realize you were in Portland
My parents moved there 13 years ago. Next time I visit, we'll have to get together. :hi:

11. Great1 I'd love it. Thanks for the wave. We get together here on
a pretty regular basis -- check with Viva_la_Revolution on the Oregon forum, too. Thanks for the wave!

(Really busy this weekend with two grandkids -- our granddaughter, age 8, and grandson, age 5 -- who are coloring pictures right now and watching TV. We have them until Sunday night.)
