I saw Jarhead last night
Edited on Thu Jun-08-06 03:31 PM by Downtown Hound
I thought it was really, really good. It shatters a lot of misconceptions about the first Gulf War, namely, that it was easy to fight. Not for the men over there. These guys went through hell and never even fired a shot. Brilliant and unconventional war film.

War is fucking crazy. That is all.

1. The wasteland and horse drenched in oil said it all
The movie really wasn't anti-the-Gulf-War-I, but those images were striking.

4. I guess I'll have to see it.
Of course I wasn't a Jarhaid, but was there on an M1A1 anyway. And it was easy. It depends where you were I guess.

5. In terms of combat, I guess it might have been
I wouldn't know, of course. But where the guys in the movie really strain is during all the waiting in the desert for the war to begin. They are there for months, watching as their girlfriends and wives leave them back home and they start to go a little crazy.

But once the war starts, there are some incredible scenes when they come across the "highway of death" with all of Saddam's burned troops still inside their vehicles. And then the oil wells light up and they are literally caught in this inferno of raining oil and smoke. It's really incredible.

Anyway, glad you didn't have too rough of a time with it. I'd be interested to know what you think of the movie.
