About to dye my hair with Manic Panic - any tips?
Edited on Thu Jun-08-06 06:48 PM by StellaBlue
I've dyed my hair many times, but never with this stuff. My hair is medium brown, and I don't want to bleach it. I bought HOT HOT PINK, and it says: "deeper shades may give stunning highlights to dark hair", so I am optimistic. I just want a fuschia shine on it, not BRIGHT, too bright for a job interview.

I plan to put about a 3-inch-wide streak of it on top of my head, off my side-part, behind my bangs (so it won't show roots right on my forehead).

Any pointers? Ideas?

Thanks!

1. That's what I use!
I do my hair pink and red (though I'm thinking of going back to black.)

Honestly, I am so bad at dripping dye all over the place, one time I just put petroleum jelly over my entire bathroom counter, and mounds of paper towel on the floor- I have spots all over my bathroom wall because I am so clumsy!

Make sure you don't have to look super nice for the next couple of days because it will dye your scalp for a short period of time- unless you are lucky and don't get any on your scalp. :D

Good luck! :7

16. Hey!!
I've not been around much lately, feel free to PM me if you wanna know why. I've been alright though! Tried a new drink, German honey liquor, can't remember the name off the top of my head but it was delicious! How are you?

19. Barenjager.
Good stuff, that. Deadly.

If you can find it, Pama pomegranate liqueur is also deadly good.

Thanks! Cool bottle, too! I believe I saw what you are talking about in the same aisle as the Barenjager- I'll have to pick some up when I hit the liquor store this weekend! :hi:

4. Flip your head over the tub/sink
DO NOT GET IN THE SHOWER. Otherwise you'll end up with a bright pink skunk stripe down your back. Or front. x(

This is of course based on the experiences of "a friend", not myself. ;)

10. Manic Panic is very bright at first
but it'll fade a bit after a few washes.

11. Okay, it's sinking in
Little on my scalp (but I put vaseline on the part), none anywhere else. The toothbrush I used is FUSCHIA, though. Bodes well.

:D

Going to put some heat on it in a mo, then rinse at about 7:50pm CST.

So excited!!! I did forget I am going to the family reunion this weekend, though. This plus my bumper stickers (MORE BILL - LESS KILL with photo of Big Dawg and QUESTION AUTHORITY) makes for a pretty picture. I am SO radical. hahaha

18. Right on!
Looks good!

My natural color isn't much darker than yours, so if the dye took so well to your shade I may just go without bleaching next time!

22. MP is pretty safe, it's the heat that's the problem.
MP is just food coloring in a carrier. You can make it by getting industrial grade food coloring at a cook's supply shop and mixing it in your favorite conditioner. It doesn't penetrate the hair shaft, it just coats the outside. That's why it washes out. I use MP or something similar every 2-3 weeks, combing it in and then wrapping my head in plastic wrap for an hour or so. It washes out in a couple of weeks, putting me back to my normal red.

I run to fire engine red, pink and purple. The worst I deal with is a slightly tinged scalp for a couple of days. I do it on Friday afternoons because it can't be seen under club lights and my scalp is clean by Monday morning.

However, no heat source comes NEAR my hair anymore. No curling irons, no blow dryers, no heating pads. I don't put my silk clothing in the dryer, so I'm not going to do so to my hair (which is the same substance - keratin.)

23. The only thing I have (from personal experience)..
if you dye your hair blue and then your mom says they won't pay your college tuition if you don't go back to blonde.. Clorox tile cleaner works wonders. (Followed by a bath in Sebastian Potion 9 because of course that stuff will kill your hair but when tuition is on the line you do what you can!)
