Dear Abby: Granny wonders if circumcision cures homosexuality
I have to admit - I love "Dear Abby" (which is actually now written by the daughter of the original Dear Abby). From reading her for years I know she's pro-choice and pro-gay rights amonst other things. But she'll always find room in her column for the truly bizarre questions asked like this doozy from this morning:

http://www.delawareonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060609/LIFE01/606090324/1088

Gay teen needs acceptance, not circumcision as a 'cure'

I have reason to believe that a young man in my family may be gay. (He is 15.) I have been thinking a lot about it lately, and have been wondering if circumcision would cure it. What do you think?

Grandmother in Missouri

Homosexuality is not an illness, and therefore there is no need for a "cure." I predict that your family will be happier if you accept your relative exactly the way he is, love him, support him, and stop trying to think of ways to cure him.

P.S. Circumcision is a sacred rite of the Jewish religion. If your theory were valid, then there would be no Jewish homosexuals. And yet, among the successful, gay, Jewish men who are "out" are Harvey Fierstein, Michael Feinstein, Barney Frank and David Geffen -- to name a few. (Oops! And let's not forget Isaac Mizrahi.)

I mean it could happen, hell Jerry Springer once had great-grannies that age on his show. You do the math

18. Quite possibly
Several of my mother's cousins were grandmas by the time they were 40. My mom was the freak because she was all of 25 and actually married before she had her first child. At the last family reunion, there was this bizarre and hilarious conversation among them about their experiences telling their grandfather they were pregnant out of wedlock.

Weird bastards.

Wait a fucken minute, she didn't mistake circumcision for castration did she? Better fucking not have. (However, it makes more sense than circumcision)

This would be the kind of lobotomy that elects people like George Pol Pot Bewsh.

7. Both "Dear Abbies" have been pretty level-headed.
I believe there's a staff to ensure that most letters get answered.

Only the most important ones make the paper. And a few of the silliest ones.

8. I can't believe how she
so casually asks if circumcision would cure it as though she's talking about a rash. I just don't understand that mentality. I really don't. :(

19. I read that this morning as well, and was gonna post it.
It is about a 9.7 on the :wtf: scale isn't it?

Although she had a Phelps kool-aid drinker that wrote to her a couple months ago that gets just as close. She was disturbed that her husband cooked like a five star chef, cleaned the house, and did laundry. Apparently Phelps' book said that "unmanly habits" like that may rub off on her kids and turn them gay.

All I could do after reading that is think. Wow, he probably rubs her feet after she gets off of work, and listens to her when she talks to him as well. Will her life of horrors never cease?
